If you construct a team with that mentality then you're stuck with 4 highly paid outfielders and a top hitting OF prospect in the minors. I'd rather trade Joc for someone cool than what you guys want to get back for Ethier.
good point... I was thinking more additive rather than trading to lose someone... I'm convinced that we're that fragile and could audition anyone as an upgrade to VanSlyke as the #5 OF and still give them good playing time which has more upside than Shoemaker or Punto. Joc has good power #'s but too many K's. Between SVS and Joc we have a decent #5 OF... neither of whom we should need
Thank goodness we didn't trade for him. Ned would've been raped. Not saying we were even close, but a relief nonetheless. http://espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/story...as-rangers-agree-deal-matt-garza-chicago-cubs
Fucks probably worked it that way on purpose. Anybody know what the Cubs are getting in return? Is the deal centered around Mike Olt? LOL if it is.
I think olt could be pedro alvarez, low average but good power and good glove, as long as his vision is straightened out.edwards could be the real centerpiece in this package though.imo I dont think anybody was going to top this offer
No there isn't a top three better than Kersh, Ryu and Grainkey. We don't need price. Looking forward to the Dodgers Philtys meeting next month. I'm flying to Philly and will be at Friday and Saturday's games. Curious as to what the Pig will do hitting in Williamsport. for the first time.
Olt wasnt the "center piece" It was the pitching prospects they got and may still possibly get. That was the big draw for them in this deal. Olt still has a lot of potential and still has a high ceiling...although his talents havent translated on the MLB stage yet. What they really wanted was the pitching, 2 prospects for now...a 3rd could be on its way in Ramirez if his shoulder is fine...if not then they choose 2 other young pitching prospects. So either way a deal for 4 or 5 prospets with 3 or 4 being pitchers is what they really wanted. Olt may never be more than a utility guy with the cubs anyways...Bryant will be the 3rd basemen of the future and their outfield prospects look to be filling those spots for years to come.
The organization drafted him to play 3rd and they want him to play 3rd. Really the only way he moves to OF is if they bring in someone else who far and away exceeds bryants play at 3rd. Although he is taller than most 3B he has the range, arm and tools to play well there defensively. I could see Olt moving to the outfield before Bryant does.
I think bryant can stick at third but it's a much quicker path to the majors as an OFer and for w/e keith law has him listed as an OFer in his midseason top 50
