if true this could be a huge pickup at the deadline for whoever the new owner is i know sdf would agree... Roy Oswalt May Sign Midseason By Ben Nicholson-Smith [February 23 at 12:09pm CST] Roy Oswalt has told MLB teams that he may sign midseason, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports. The free agent right-hander explained that he intends to stay ready in case an appealing opportunity emerges before midseason. The Red Sox, Rangers, Cardinals and Reds were among the many clubs to express interest in Oswalt this offseason. It appears that they didn't have enough room in their rotations or budgets for the 34-year-old, who seeks a one-year deal and a job as a starter. Roger Clemens, a former teammate of Oswalt's, sat out the beginning of the season in 2006 and 2007 before signing midseason and Pedro Martinez had a similar approach to the 2009 campaign.
Would love to see him get brought in and have Rubby used out of the pen his first season ala Price, before being moved to the rotation next season. He'd be fucking deadly.
here's an idea sign him now to an annual contract -- pro-rated depending upon when he shows up the sooner he comes in the sooner he makes money
I just don't see it happening. Ned signed two shitty pitchers (3 if you count Lilly) to multi-year deals....there is literallly no room. You can never have enough starting pitching, but Ned and company aren't going to drop Harrang, Capuano, or Lilly to make room for him. It''s BS but as the great Juan Pierre says, 'it is what it is'.
Am I the only one getting a feeling Ned will stay on as GM? It's a horrible feeling but how much change will the new owner want to create? He may see the team as okay for now, wait till next year to improve kind of guy. Which means we may have more Ned gems to look forward to during the season.
idk but i'll tell you this... my boycott does not necessarily end with a new owner he needs to prove something to me before i'll spend a single penny if he doesn't invest in the team -- heavily and immediately then i don't return
You're just paranoid because of all the bad fortune we've had lately. I say there's a 50/50 chance Ned gets fired on May 1, with a 90% chance he is gone before June 1. The new owner will want to make their mark and separate themselves from the McCourt era as much and as soon as possible, and firing Ned is the most powerful and least destructive way to do that in our situation. The new owners will have the month of April to get their ducks in a row, which should include searching for a new GM. Also, it's no secret that Logan White is loved by many Dodger fans, so making him interim GM, with a possibility of becoming fulltime GM, would have to be highly considered. In any case, Ned's days are numbered.
If this were the mideast, during the seventh inning stretch they'd take him out to the pitchers mound and cut his head off .
Peter Gammons@pgammo Oswalt's agent telling teams Roy worked out for the Dodgers Friday, and L.A. is looking for a starter and a mid-lineup bat This seems a little more concrete. Time to speculate on what the fuck would happen to the rotation if we signed him.
