Pretty bummed I'm gonna miss Urìas pitch again tomorrow, but hoping for another good outing and a series win.
Roberts said nothing set in srone about Bellinger going back to Minors. "Things can change," he said.
Just peeked at http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2017-batting-leaders.shtml because I love stats and of course Mike Trout leads nearly every category that isn't shared by Zimmerman and Harper Washington is having a STUD year so far. and then near the very bottom of the "Leaders" section there it was the "Leader" in GIDP... Yasiel "Cabbage Head" Puig
Leading the league in GIDP usually just means you hit the ball hard. Pujols led the league in it multiple times in his prime.
Yeah, he's making tons of hard contact, but hitting it right at people. He really needs to start getting the ball in the air more.
Yeah maybe whatever you said but it's still an inglorious stat to lead, akin to 'Most Strikeouts'. OK that shows your swing hard, but more it shows you swing poorly. Leading all the majors in GIDP means you're NOT hitting line drives even if you are hitting it hard. But he's young and at least he's seeing the ball a tad better and hitting it at all instead of the prior customary wild whiff at air on a ball three balls wide. I keep hoping he comes back up the curve where his native talent was before the league figured out that he'll swing at garbage. So more BB's is a great sign of plate discipline. Harper leads the MLB in walks. Puig still has better core physical skills than many. all sitting nicely under his cabbage head
Also on the topic of walks, I noticed that Taylor had 4 the other night. I wasn't watching to see how many were gimme's vs. well earned walks but it was nice to see a rookie with such plate discipline.
Seems that Puig stands more in the back corner of the box now. That could explain all the grounders (the pitch sinks further before contact), while on the flip side it could explain fewer swings and misses (more time to read the pitch).
