Fair enough. But to say it isn't character heavy is incorrect. I'm actually struggling to think of a television series where so many different characters have developed so much. Usually you get a main one, then about another five. I care about 15 or so of GoT characters, and all have had complex character changes and large amounts of television time.

Wait....16 hours on DSP...8 hours to sleep. You have no time to masterbate.

    Oh....lack of sleep....explains a lot.

My age has calmed my fury, I guess. Just looking for escapist entertainment...GoT fills that bill fine for me. I've learned not to be so judgemental if you get a measure of what you need.
It's not obsession,, like being a Dodger fan. Opposite ends of the spectrum.
I don't consider it a "quality" as you do..I've been an artist for many years, and all art has a place, a heart, a pulse...and I certainly have the stomach still for it, and don't take a back seat creatively either.
My judgemental forays lies in my own work, not everyone elses. It's about as
compulsory as bras were in 1969.
I saw my first ( and last) episode of The Walking Dead ever yesterday, and thought it was fucking laughable and total sensationalism...pregnant woman shoving some kind of crow bar through zombies heads...well written?
Me, I'd rather listen to John Snow tell the assemblage that "one must keep his pledge and not lie, no matter what, because if everyone lies, then words lose their meaning".
Just seems a step up from the zombie frenzy...for me, anyway.

I really don't like his books. I read the first four then got sick of waiting 5+ years for 10000 word descriptions of what foodstuffs were at a feast or what someones armor looked like.

    I liked the kite runner.

Must have been the rape or something.

LOL @ wait for the books to be written. George R R isn't exactly quick at getting books out (or quick at anything judging by his physique).

Also FWIW, someone else can clarify this, the show doesnt diverge much from the books. I've never read the books, but that's what I hear.

Man, this comes off quite curmudgeonly. Not that there's anything wrong with not liking the show. I'm surprised you put in 3 seasons... I have a friend who hated the first episode of the first season, so I told him the show is probably not for him. It's not a popular opinion, but I watched the first 4 episodes of Breaking Bad and I don't get it. That show seems like a waste of time to me so I haven't watched more, but I can't argue with its following or people's enjoyment of it.

I watched a few seasons of Walking Dead, I enjoyed the characters and understood the zombie thing as a metaphor. The gore of the zombies is there for one type of viewer, the metaphor for another type of viewer. Still after some seasons I kinda lost interest.
I have memories of some of the characters though, which means those beats were pretty good when they happened.
I liked the first few seasons of GoT then stopped caring. Not because of the show but just the time commitment probably.
But I have a memory drive with all of the seasons before this current one waiting for me. Probably wait till its all over and then have marathons watching it with the wife.
We watched The Last Kingdom together and she loved it. It was a very good show. Better than Vikings imo.

I don't really care if you blast GoT. I'm mainly concerned about your health, you already have one strike against your health being a Dodger fan, so I don't like seeing you get worked up over other things that are not so important. IPAs are always good though. Carry on.

the thing with all these shows is that their appeal is very subjective and personal
and (at least to me) a lot of it depends if you catch them from the start
i don't have a lot of free time so it's really hard [fucken homo] difficult for me to play catch up via binge watching
even though i didn't catch shows like the sopranos or breaking bad from the start, they were pretty easy to follow
i've watched true detective and westworld from the start and enjoyed them both
the one show i regret missing is boardwalk empire, and i may actually make an effort to binge watch
but tbh game of thongs never really appealed to me
just doesn't seem like something i'd be interested in
i might be saying different had i actually watched, but there was nothing there from the start to interest me

keep thinking about watching GOT w all the hype and excitement about it just don't want to put in the time this late in the game
loved BB and thats kind of the last show i went out of my way to watch
if i'm bored i'll watch a couple of the real life murder shows, forensic files is pretty compelling
but overall i just can't get involved w a series after i feel insulted by a lame attempt or repeated line for the mentally challenged
never go to movies much either although guardians was good fun
maybe its the getting old thing but i like to laugh at people and not pretend to fake the whole "wow thats so good" thing
a little weird because i've always loved science fiction from a heinlein/hitchhiker slant
but never saw a star wars or really bought into the uber fantasy movies either
i have a family full of intelligent nerds and i play their fantasy games and it just bores me but like you say teho
clearly we all have that thing we enjoy and whos to judge?
i still seem pretty driven/cursed by the whole pussy thing

I'd say GoT is pretty light on the fantasy aspects. There aren't elves, goblins or dozens races of people... some magic and dragons, but if that's the only reason you watch the show you will be sorely disappointed. It's mostly about wars, families and their interactions in a medieval-like world. I think you can watch the first episode and have a pretty good idea if it's for you - it's about Sean Bean, wolf puppies, and pissing off the top of the wall.

Dragons, undead, ressurections, prophesy, all seeing emo kids? It gets lost in the whoring, but there's all kinds of magic.
