    MLB mulls discipline after Yuli Gurriel's insensitive gesture
    ESPN.com — 4 minutes ago

    Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel apologized for making a racially insensitive gesture toward Dodgers pitcher Yu Darvish during Game 3 of the World Series.

    After his second-inning home run off Darvish in the Astros' 5-3 win, Gurriel motioned at his own eyes in the dugout in a mocking gesture.

    A Major League Baseball spokesman said MLB will meet with Gurriel on Saturday and will look into potential discipline.

    Gurriel, speaking through an interpreter, said he made the gesture because he never had success against Japanese pitchers in the past. Gurriel is a Cuban native who played one year for the Yokohama DeNA Baystars of the Japan League in 2014.

    "I did not mean it to be offensive at any point, quite the opposite, I have always had a lot of respect [for Japanese people]," Gurriel said. "For me, Japan is very important because it's the place that gave me the chance to play."

    Also speaking through an interpreter, Darvish, who is of Japanese and Iranian decent, called the gesture "disrespectful."

    "I try not to care much about it, but he played in Japan, and I have a lot of respect for him, so I try not to think about it too much against him," Darvish said. "Nobody's perfect.

    "Everybody's different. You have to learn from it. He made a mistake, and we've just got to learn from it. We are all human beings, that's what I'm saying. So, it's just learn from it, and we gotta move forward."​

    BTW, remember in one of our last playoff games, I think it was against the Phillies, a couple of our batters got plunked, and I remember Russell Martin losing it in the dugout because none of our pitchers did anything about it until the next game.

    I'm not an advocate of hitting batters, but our non-response bothered me at that time.

    I think we really need to show some balls and destroy the Astros this next game.....and if a plunking occurs, so be it.....but Let It Be.

    Seems like a perfect storm of cluster fucks to me, on multiple levels, to get us where we are.
    I still don't think the early yank of Hill was good baseball, based on what "might have happened". I rather think it was Dave, itching and probably erect to use Morrow and Jansen for four innings, which he publicly stated beforehand he had no problem doing.
    As far as that cretin Gurriel, I don't believe one fucking word of his response...who physically uses a classic childhood racist gesture to express what he explained as the reason he did it? Pure fucking bullshit, imo.
    I give Darvish lots of credit for his gracious statement about this, and the place his heart is for the elegance to say it. Truly inspiring.
    Now he can perhaps tell us, after the stage was set magnificently for why they went out and got him, why he sucked elephant cock.

    Yeah the position players pissed me off waaaaay more than any pitching. The bullpen held it together and kept us in it. The position players didn’t take advantage of shitty pitching and played shitty defense on top of it. Inexcusable to only score 3 runs yesterday when McCullers went an entire inning where he couldn’t throw a strike. When Brad peacock was throwing it down the pipe.

    I’m not scared about Wood today, I’m scared the offense won’t do shit.
