    I wouldn't be surprised. I'm remaining optimistic.

We need an impact starting pitcher though.

We aren't scoring runs, but at some point, it's the players' fault if they don't score. Ned has done all he can for the most part. They need to produce.

He bought low on Hanley and Victorino, good trades. Up to them to do what they are capable of. They were both born in the 1980s. It's not like they are old players. They are pretty young and capable of producing. Have to do it. Kemp is still low key dominating. A lot of singles, but if people were on base, they'd be pretty productive. Nothing is in synch offensively on a consistent basis. They will have to find it. Ned can't do much more this year.

Offense is what it is. Get a pitcher.

There is something to build on but the market is thin.

I am very happy with this trading season, and as TB stated...it's on the players now. This team needs to perform, andding players doesn't mean the ones we have can stop playing they are capable...they need to keep it up and in many cases, improve for cryin' out loud!(lookin at you Ethier, Loney, Ellisx2)

    fwiw...

Take a guess: The World Series will be played between the __________ and the __________.

Jerry Crasnick (@jcrasnick), ESPN.com: I picked the Rangers in spring training, so I feel compelled to stick with them even though my head tells me otherwise. The Dodgers now have an offense poised to make a run under Don Mattingly.

Any overpaid players should clear waivers: Morneau, Aramis Ramirez, Cliff Lee...

Bobby Abreu got DFA'd for Shane. Makes sense considering he's pretty half dimensional at this point

My guess, is this: at this point all Abreu brings is the availability to pinch hit And he's been hitting terribly lately. He has declined in hitting, and all of our other players bring multiple things or are better than his hitting.

Yes, Uribe is the other choice but at this point, you have two backup infielders in Uribe/Hairston and then Gwynn/Loney. Uribe can at least play the infield and play SS; It kinda sucks, I really thought Uribe would finally be gone but it does put Mattingly in a tough bind to only have one backup infielder per game.

Plus, now with Victorino in LF, you can use Loney off the bench (Hey, and Gwynn has had much more success off the bench then starting...)

Abreu. I'm surprised as well. I was half expecting a 3 year contract at the end of the season. I guess things really have changed in the FO.

Team puts a player on waivers (most players go through waivers). Every team has a chance to claim that player, and it starts with the worst team in the MLB and goes up to the best team in the MLB. If you claim a player, the team who put the player on waivers can do three things: 1) Work out a trade with you for that player involving prospects/cash... 2) Take back the player off waivers and do nothing... 3) Simply dump that player to the other team

So, if you claim a player you have the risk of taking on his entire contract with no say in it.

Now, if a player goes through waivers and no MLB team claims him, he is free to be traded to whichever team.

Theres some fine details about waiver wire order and what not, but thats the main thing. Also, a player you obtain thru waivers must be on your team before September 1st in order to be on your playoff roster.
