So we could get by with a starter who could only go five or so innings. We could stretch out the bull pen was the explaination I heard on the tube today

We got new owners and they made promises and committments and in varying degrees we bought in or didn't buy in. But now on July 31 WHAT THE HELL! I am not asking if anyone saw this coming July 31 2011 as I doubt if anyone saw it coming. I am wondering did anyone even dream this might be where we are today. I gotta wonder if we had signed Fielder if they would have still signed Victorino and Ramirez. Can you imagine if we had picked up all three!

Well, Maui Wowie is a Dodger. Should at lest, help us for the next months. between him and Pence though, I think the Giants won. Not by much, but I would have had Pence out of the two. The Gonad lineup is much better with him in it. I can't believe Schierholtz was somebody on the Phils radar. ???
Doesn't matter...Maui Wowie leads off, right?
I get a sense that Dee, watching all this with his mitten on, with his thoughts churning over and over in his young brain, must wonder where he fits in now in this maelstrom. And I also imagine that sadly, this spells the end of Luis Cruz roster-wise, although Uribe and /or Kennedy get my votes for immediate disappearance. Vaporization. But you know the Dodgers...I don't think they've changed that much. I hope that DBB can get creative here, but I doubt it.
So now Kemp is a RF and Ethier is the LF; is that how this works now? Hmmmm...IDK about this. SV can catch though...no doubt about that.

Hanrahah wasnt traded, just a late bloomer... That has nothing to do with Ned or prospect trades... Its like the non so classic rule 5 draftee who becomes a star...

Because he was allowed to get away as a result of a management decision. It is still a matter of evaluating talent and potential isn't it? Still part of the General Managers job description to manage the 25 man roster, 40 man roster and player length of service with the organization. I never mentioned solely trades. Still a player who got away for what ever reason. Some might argue it is worse than a trade for with a trade you at least got something in return even if of little value beyond the minor leagues. One of the things said about Kasten is that in Atlanta he build and organization that kept their talent in the system and brought them along in a good time frame. We can be sure he will bring the resources to our farm system and organization so we can do so also.

Hanrahan came up to the majors in the Nats organization at the age of 26 not a late bloomer as he never saw major league time with the Dodgers and won't be a free agent until 2014. Since Kasten was President of the Nats from 2006-2010 He had a handle on Hanrahan and his potential that he will hopefully bring to our organizaton the resources to do it also. We can only wonder what if anything he thought about the Dodger organization back then. He did allow Hanarahan to get away from the Nats to the Pirates however.

At 26 you are not a prospect. You are either a reliever or bench player. Dont say it wasnt because the Dodgers didnt gave him the chance. He was part of the system, so he was having his chance, he just wasnt doing much with it. At those levels is not the team's job to give you chances, its the players job to force the team's hand. We've had many relievers coming up from the minors, so if he didnt got the break it was because he was underperforming...
