    nah son, go rocks
even if we got swept by the pads (unlikely) and they swept the d'bags, our division lead would actually increase
rocks are schizo so who knows... have lost 8 in a row after winning 6 straight
won't really matter as long as we take care of business against the pads

I'm more worried about the D-Backs than I am the Rockies.

I'd rather see Arizona lose since they are in 2nd.

That said, anything that pushes the Rockies down is a good thing. I really don't want to finish with the best record in the NL and then travel to Colorado for 2 games in the NLDS.

Would be nice to take JD and Verlander from the Tigers.
Or Santana and closer Kintzler from the Twins.
Or Yonder Alonso and Ryan Madson and Daniel Coulombe from the A's.

Trade guys like Trayce, Toles, SVS, Stripling, our minor league catching depth.
A's may like Maeda and his soft controllable contract.
Grandal may be tradeable assets since we have young catchers showing they can play and guys like Montero and Avila available.
Joc has plenty of guys trying to take his position.

LOL.....no one is taking our trash for those guys. Joc, Puig, Verdugo, Beuhler, Alverez......those are the assets that would need to be sent packin to get the guys you mentioned.

Why would a team want any of those guys?

If you want JD Martinez and Verlander, you're looking at a legit prospect or two for JD and then you'd have to convince the Tigers to take on one of our overpaid pitchers to offset Verlander's deal. And then hope he actually pitches well.

I personally want the Rox dead and buried. I forgot what happens to this town when someone outside the Broncos starts doing well. The high and mighty bullshit is annoying and like it was said, coming to CO in the LDS would be fucking HORRIBLE. The Dodgers recent struggles here have been frustrating enough, but adding to it with playoff games in a place where the fanbase HATES anything Californian is gonna make things tough. I'm also not a fan of potentially playing 8 straight against them with 5 being at Coors. I want the last series of the year to mean nothing and if we have to play anyone, I would take AZ. Their BP is likely to break down a bit AND they have one real bat that terrifies me in a short series in Goldschmidt, the Rockies have 3(Blackmon, Arenado and Cargo) that if they are rolling, they can kill you.

I'd love to see us get JD + Verlander, but unless the Dodgers cover most of Verlander's contract I think the deal gets complicated (even by nerd standards) very quickly.

I'm not feeling that the Rocks will nipping at our heels if they sweep the Bags. The playoffs pack more pressure obviously so the Rookie Rocks will be more likely to melt more than they have as of late. We have more games against the Bags than the Rocks as well so I reiterate that I'd rather have the Bags further away from us because of their starting pitching

Yep. I could easily see us have an amazing year just to wind up with two cheap losses at Coors in the NLDS. I don't know who can knock Colorado out of a WC spot (right now it would take Cubs + Milwaukee), but a lot of season left to play so hard to say how this plays out just yet...

Looking at his base numbers, I see nothing in Martinez to risk coughing up top prospects. Is he really that much of an upgrade? Once again, I would be looking for a top line starter. A right handed too. Far more important for the playoffs than someone marginally better than what we have, or what we eventually will have from the minors in his position.

He is widely respected as a hitter and he rakes against lefties which is the biggest draw for a team like us.

Dude is a beast. His RH bat will fit nicely in the middle of this lineup.

    Defense sucks though.

Puig has actually been better than him this year (according to BR's WAR). Flinging top prospects for marginal at most upgrade seems insane. Despite the fact his bat would sit pretty in the middle of the lineup.

The rumor is that Martinez would not come insanely expensive as he's a rental AND the new qualifying offer system greatly reduces his value to the Tigers who can't afford him. I'd rather have him as an addition in LF, but not as a replacement for Puig.

He isn't sliding into Puig's spot though. Verdugo or another comprable defensive player with a better bat would be in that spot. Martinez would be in left field.

Or, assuming Puig is not involved in the deal, he can remain in right field. His inconsistency would be much easier to bear if you have Turner, Martinez, and Seeger as high volume, power and on base guys in the lineup.

    agree, but i'm torn
i like martinez (homo), but not for what he'd likely cost in prospects
but... if adding him gets us a ring...

here's my problem with martinez in lf...
    what about when agon returns?
you know roberts is going to give him (veteran) preferential pt at 1b
and there's no way in hell cody should sit or platoon
