    • Diamondbacks GM Dave Stewart confirmed that the team has active interest in starter James Shields, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports on Twitter. Stewart adds that he likes the idea of Shields serving as a mentor while fronting the team’s rotation. Fellow free agent Max Scherzer, however, is too spendy for Arizona.

i don't think they cared tbh
it was more about getting rid of kemp's clubhouse presence
i'm sure they would have preferred to trade him out of the nl west, but they obviously went with what they felt was the best deal
our FO is more concerned about doing what's best for this team, for now and (especially) the future

    This...

And really... the Padres... when will the Padres EVER amount to a hill of beans despite this years set of trades being better than they'Ve done in decades? I'm still counting on the Padres suckitude being prolific.

I'm not underestimating anyone at this point other than the Rockies and I'm sure the FO isn't.

Knock yourself out Dave. Or save the money and spend it on vocal chord and lung enhancement so you don't sound like a twelve year old girl with Progeria when you speak.

Are we afraid of them yet, just curious everyone's thoughts. Offense is still not scary however.

Offense surely looks better than that thing they call an MLB rotation

Not me. Unless our offense completely flops, I'm not scared of any west team.

If I had to call the division right now, today, it would be:

    Dodgers
    pAAdres/D'Backs (coin toss for 2nd/3rd)
    Giants
    Rocks

file under "the more things change, the more they remain the same"...
    • The Phillies are “unrealistic in their expectations” in what they hope to receive in a Hamels trade, a source tells WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford. As was reported earlier today, the Phillies have a firm price tag in mind for Hamels and are in no rush to deal the ace left-hander.

Not that it's earth shattering but Aoki signed with the hated ones but it does squash that stupid idea that Dre would be sent there.

Aoki signed means Dre is closer to his next team.

    indeed.

good signing for the Gnats too tho. Pagan and Aoki are a good 1-2 at the top..i assume that's what it'll be.

The issue is not if the DBacks or Pads are a threat to our winning the division. The problem could be them winning more games against us and knocking us out of seeding/ home field advantage possibilities.

we just saw 2 WC teams in the WS. not that i'd wanna waste Kershaw in a WC game or that'd be the goal..that'd be crazy. just sayin..home field is overrated ( we certainly saw that on our end). i just want a good matchup however it comes. interestingly enough, wild card teams have been all the rage as of late.
