have to think having Ferris melt down on the road was something they would like to avoid and entered into the decision as well
If Kershaw gives you 7 Ryu in Game 2 with an off day following and then 3 games at home sounds good. If he gives you 4 and gets lit up we could be in trouble.
I'm certain that Kershaw gets lit tomorrow. I know his results were good in the NLDS but his fastball command was shit I'm pessimistic per usual until they win it all
Agree on Buck. Disagree on Smoltz. He's an analyst. A bit curmudgeonly perhaps, but he does a good job informing the viewers about the game within the game. Agree with him completely about the absence of the running game and absurd practice of some catcher standing up when they want a high pitch. I find the running game more entertaining than strikeouts with a few HRs mixed in. Can't see how a catcher doesn't think a hitter can't see him standing up out of the corner of his eye. Also agree with an earlier post praising Joe Davis. If you didn't know it there's no way a viewer would know he was employed by the Dodgers.
Looking at the Yelich interview, it's hard to dislike him. He's a humble kid , full of talent and has the potential to be horribly dangerous. I just hope he goes into a horrendous slump right about now. I'm curious as to what the plan devised is how the staff will handle him. I don't even know if he's got a weakness. If we go right at him, and he rakes, then we deserve what we get. I wouldn't let him beat us, I'd walk him 20 times if I had to, but I don't see Kershaw or Roberts pitching around him. Kershaw's stubbornness and Dave's occasional brain farts combined could be problematic indeed. We'll know soon enough. Go Bums!!
I'm curious how we approach him as a staff, but I'd say there's zero chance Kershaw pitches around him. For better or for worse.
The best way to have approached him would've been with an offer that the Marlins couldn't refuse. I say that in only half seriousness because I know his price tag was hefty. But who would've thought that between him, Stanton, and Ozuna, he'd be the one considered an MVP front-runner?
Something interesting I didn’t know: Hader has mostly been used with days of rest between outings... he seems to struggle when going back to back days. I really really think if we split the first 2, their bullpen will blow up during the next 3 games
Listening to a radio interview with Strip a couple days ago, he talked about the "gut punch" of not making the DS roster. But he also seemed optimistic - expectant even - that he would make the CS roster due to 1) his belief that he/they had fixed what was wrong with his delivery, and 2) the expectation that the team would carry more bats to offset MIL's prolific use of their pen which in turn would have meant that the Dodgers would need relivers that added length. Too bad for the kid. Shows the depth that this roster has, that it doesn't have room for a current year All-Star (Strip), the 8th inning set-up arm from most of the season (Alexander), a wily vet who may end up in the HOF (Utley), a top prospect who by all accounts is big-league ready (Verdugo), and others. I doubt other managers have this many tough decisions to make. I guess it's a good problem to have.
Love Julio. I'm pumped Feel bad for Ross because he did sound optimistic about making the LCS roster, but he's been horrible.
Crazy that Ross and Kemp both made the all star game and Ross can't even make the roster while Kemp barely starts.
Because at this point in time, given the early season excluded, he is as ineffective as a RP can be. Immediately puts men on base lss.( Large sample size). Dangerous. I think the decision is excellent. No telling how Julio fares, of course, but compared to Alexander ether/or, certainly no worse.
