JT's OPS just under .900 now with a .303 BA and 9 dingers in 65 games.

Does anyone think that Machado was plunked on purpose?

We'll probably reel of a half dozen more now while Joe and Orel talk about the extra innings win vs the G'Nats as the turning point, ad nauseum.

...... and meanwhile, SNLA will prop Tommy up in a chair for the 19th mini-series about the glory of '88.

Spot on. Love how they try to have 24 hour programming with nothing to talk about but 1988. Pathetic.

I think I prefer Nomar to Orel. I know that's like saying Roseanne is skinnier than Kathy Bates, but still.

We beat the shit out of a pretty good team twice on their field. Nice.

Too bad the Padres are one of the worst franchises in any sport.

I keep hearing the Padres will be good eventually. Never happens.
Their last postseason appearance was..when? 10 years ago when they went 82-80?
Why have franchises that are perennially terrible?
But but..."The Gaslamp District is sick!"

Even if their top prospects work out, they'll just leave the Padres when they're FAs.

I think you gotta keep Toronto (sKocialist) and Washington (rkacist) but the rest...fair game. Miami and Tampa are a joke.

Having the hindsight that Dodger postseasons over the last number of years have ended in heartbreak, would you rather they had not made it to the playoffs at all? My answer is definitely no.

Then consider this. Without Kershaw, some of those postseasons never happen. Key on his mixed playoff results as much as you want. He will still go down as one of the greatest pitchers to ever step on a MLB mound.

Not if he doesn't win a WS in my opinion. His post season failures loom large, maybe more than they should, unless he redeems himself in someway with a chip. Hall of Fame is a tricky thing that way.

I think he'll get in, WS or not. Not every great player wins a ring. That's just baseball. Griffey, Guerrero, hell, Mike Trout may never win one the way the Angels play unless he leaves for greener pastures in a few years.

Given his frivolous stupidity, I seriously doubt Arte will let anyone offer a greener pasture to Trout than he will, come F/A. That guy will make Trout the first 50MM player.

Kershaw could retire tomorrow and get in the HOF on the first ballot. That's not even a debate. He's legitimately in the company of the greatest ever. Generational.
The "legacy" and "failure" stuff will not and should not factor in.

    agreed
he was the best at his position for several years
he’s in first ballot based on what he’s already accomplished

You'd responded to his last line - one of the greatest to ever step on the mound - and I was with you. But then you took it to the " HOF " and that's my stop. He's definitely in there.

There should be tiers of greatness in the HOF, IMO. Yeah, you get into the HOF and you're great. But the guys who were great both in the reg season and the playoffs should be separated from the Kershaw types that never got it done in the fall. Koufax and Kershaw need to be separated in the hall. Koufax is king.

I'm with you. At the end of the day, looking back, I just can't say I'm all that surprised that a product of the McCourt era let us down in the end. And the fact that he was arguably the best player in baseball for a stretch just makes it worse.

At this point I feel I'm semi-protective of Koufax's career marks and I don't want Kershaw surpassing them. Would rather he pack up and get ghost before that happens. That, to me, would be the last slap in the face..to have Kerhsaw's name above Koufax's in LAD's record books. Nah, fuck that. Koufax gave the blue 10 years and I'm good with pulling the plug on Kersh after 10
