I haven't had much to say since the Mayan calendar ended. There's just not much Dodger news going on right now. Even Ned is just dialing in his roster additions - the random disabled players and street bums he usually gets. But there will be plenty to talk about soon. I expect when pitchers and catchers start showing up the first big question will be answered: whether Belisario is able to get through customs with his suitcase full of talcum powder. Then we will all be into the flow all right. So much to follow. After all, this is our World Championship season coming up and the start of the Guggy Dodger Dynasty. New posters would be great - but I expect things to pick up in here anyway.
no need to worry ruve has a resource site when it comes to recruiting in fact it's how he actually got a lot of us here...
Twitter? I'm not super techy but if anyone else is....maybe we could set up a user account and have some sort of setting where anything that gets more than x number of likes on the site automatically gets tweeted. Have the profile link to the site and just randomly throw shit out there. Some of the stuff written here is funny as hell, other things make you think, disagreements are well played out, all sorts of shit.
Yeah, if I knew anything about twitter I could say if this is a good idea, but it sure sounds like a good one to me. A quick google search indicates that there are ways to feed forum software into a twitter account via the forum software's RSS feed. Not sure how hard it would be to threshold it like you say (based on likes, or views or replies) but it certainly seems possible.
I bet that the forum sw has twitter options, it just a matter of Ruven activating them. Which brings to the original point, is Ruven interested in any of this?
Hammer and I have the same access that Ruven does in terms of the forum software. Xenforo doesn't appear to have obvious twitter integration built in, but it looks like there are ways to hook it indirectly to a twitter account. In terms of Ruven's wishes, who can say? I wish he was here to weigh in on this kind of stuff, but he's not and we have to do the best we can to take care of the site until/if he decides to come back to it full time.
Ok, so what's holding us then... I think a good first step is to contact that guys from Dodgersbeat and team up with them... If it means some of the posters regulating language, so be it... Seriously, this place has been really fun for many of us for years, and as I know its not helping Ruven a bit. I think its time for this place to provide something to him...
that is definitely not the spirit of the site as i have heard Ruven explain it. i really doubt he would want a bunch of regulation on the site to provide him a few dollars. in fact that is the opposite of what he intended as far as i can tell.
I dont mean a bunch if regulation psd style, but from what I've seen, this place has changed since the beginning (remember the girls of DSP?).
Are we promoting this as a sports forum (with every major sports team with a section to post in) or attacking a niche and promoting the Dodgers page? Maybe ruve should just abandon everything and make this a DODGERS only forum. It basically already is
when i first came here there was an entirely different site with a lot of different posters. the dodger forum was a dust bowl. remember how all the other teams forums were before the site crashes? that was the dodger forum with a few threads and one or two comments. it was all the guys coming over from psd that brought it to life. and then the rest of the site sort of went away. maybe craig or scratch could give their opinion is to what happened. i know some guys went off to make their own sites but it did seem to me like there was a much bigger core of posters. maybe i'm wrong.
Why did people originally come here? No clue unless others were brow beaten by LA Diablo... Why do people leave? No clue unless others were brow beaten by DBurchHero... Can our natural semi-restrained comments actually provide "anything" to Ruven? If so then I'd support that so long as it's not chock full of spam and ads everywhere. I'm not in favor of a Dodgers only focus and see it of lesser value than a broader sports focus. IMO. Gotta vent on Lakers foes you know. Love to hate on the Yankees but no fans left it seems. But I'll go along with anything reasonable that creates value for the group.
