Gotta look at it like this. Right now we're the Dell DJ trying to compete with the iPod. Shit aint gonna work. Shit hasn't worked. But if we can work towards a niche (LA community. One big forum dedicated to LA sports. Nothing like it atm) For example. a Cubs fan has no incentive to stay...Neither does a fan of every other baseball team besides the Dodgers...or any NFL fan etc. It'll take a lot of time/money/advertising to get this to expand as is. So working with what we have. The Dodgers/Lakers pages would be pretty active. It'd be easier to grow that community. Add a Kings (NHL) page and even Galaxy. Yall niggas expecting to be Walmart when in actuality were Hostess...
I like the group we have here. I think we're all pretty well educated, and have differing opinions which usually makes for good discussion. For what it's worth, I don't think we need to add more posters.
we could try to bring him back... that should be fun... joking aside, I had a good relationship with him... no homo...
I think the style of this forum would need to be changed. A SMF works best for these types of sports sites. It's just easier to navigate and keep up with discussions. This site is kind of an eye sore to be honest and i think it's one of the reasons that most people have come here in the past and left rather quickly.
Borat, what about the forum do you find particularly hard to use or eyesoreish? If there's something you think could be changed to make it easier to navigate or easier to find/see posts, that would be really useful.
Here is the deal. We do have a great group of core guys. Would it be better with more posters? Perhaps. However, I remember when we were up to our ass in posters in the Dodgers from at PSD and most of them were shit. Most of the good ones came here. So, chances are, we wind up with a plethora of different posters. Some we will mesh with and others who will make us want to fly to wherever and beat the living shit out of a few fourteen year olds. There is also the issue of Ruven. For as much shit as we give him, this is his. He pays for the site and pretty much lets us do what we want. Hell, I have seen posters curse him and not be banned. Where else could that happen? Tragedy, anyone? So, however this turns out (if we are actually considering), Ruven's generosity should not go unnoticed or acknowledged. With all that said, there are issues here. This site probably needs a face lift. This site does need to be updated in a number of ways. I agree that we probably need a niche" as was pointed out earlier. I would suggest that such a niche be aimed at those who can actually hold a conversation.
lots of different music out there by bowie. the last one "reality" was one of his best imo and i go back. his early stuff is pretty well known but one of my all timers was a live 1974 recording called "david live at the tower philadelphia". my favorite period was the low, lodger, station to station, heroes era. thats the period he's referring to in that new video. his time in germany with a producer named brian eno shooting heroin and recording.
That was the experience here when we aggressively recruited. We got a bunch of new posters, but many of them were shit (goosedennis) and few stuck around. Ruven doesn't pay for the site (Hammer pays the ISP and I pay for Xenforo). But it's still Ruven's site--we're just trying to preserve the culture he created. What ways would you like to see the site updated? I'm getting the sense that several people think the site is ugly or hard to use. We can certainly make changes if there are some common things that several/many of the core guys around here think are broken. In terms of my $0.02, I'm not terribly concerned with growing the site or making the DSP the next big anything. I prefer quality over quantity, and I'd rather keep the guys here that are the heart and soul of this site. Sure, some new posters with fresh ideas and energy (Holla Reason!) would improve the site, but I'd like to keep the growth maintained in such a way that we keep the good parts of DSP culture intact. I want it to be a place where you can say pretty much anything you want, but at the same time its a site filled with people mature enough not to abuse the "say anything you want" rules.
I do nto think it is ugly. I think the color scheme is probably what I notice most. Also, I know it sounds strange but the forum looks very much like a forum. I do not know what offerings they have but perhaps if it had a different asthetic appeal, this would change.
1) Kudo's and hearty THANKS to Ruven, Craig and Hammer!! Sincerely... and then THANK YOU once again. 2) IMO the DSP site is way better looking than some of the other sports blog sites... a random half dozen... http://www.topix.com/forum/city/los-angeles-ca - format sucks + massive ads http://www.sportshoopla.com/forums/index.php - ancient format sucks + ads http://www.sportsforums.net/ - format very plain - now closed http://www.phillysportsforums.com/ - format ok but no better than DSP https://www.2ksports.com/forums/ - ancient format sucks http://forums.prosportsdaily.com/ - also older forum format - much more traffic but it doesn't look as nice as DSP 3) I agree with Craig and others about quality over quantity. Just try to follow a comment thread on a Yahoo sports story (for example) and within minutes there are 100's or even 1000's of posts many of which don't even get read, at least a third of whom are claiming imminent alien takeover and that 9-1-1 was faked by the US Government. (Ok maybe Ruven had posted there... maybe) 4) It would be wonderful if we grew somewhat to keep fresh opinions but not at the expense of banner ads and panel ads and other malware. Also larger forums attract a greater % of trolls... The value that "I" get from DSP stems from friendly though disparate views on the news and sports stories of the day. I don't want everyone to agree with me... (like that has EVER been an issue here)... its OK to have other non-Dodger teams to cheer for... even if there is a certain 'home field' LA turf being defended... it's nice to share views that are less popular though no less valid... and then read coherent replies not resorting to name calling or threats to my family... Oh and I don't get banned for saying Fuck more than once when Fuck is what I truly mean. And I admit that some of you guys also have a wicked sense of humor... which always brightens my day... Just saying... Keep it up!!
I listened to this and my first thought was "no wonder Bowie lost all commercial credibility" what a pile of morose sodden drivel...like I need egotistical downer suicide music for a rainy day... MZA sorry about that ex-gf if this was the best that she offered... ouch! But I've never been such a big Bowie fan... can you tell?
