but SVS is a chip that I wouldn't want to move but I'm just spitballing.

Why not? He's not an everyday guy and he's already 28. When the young talent starts maturing he's going to be holding a roster spot that would be better served by giving a top 20 prospect his shot. I'd sell high on him now rather than wait until the rest of the league sees him as a guy we want to dump.

SVS stays. The little clubhouse chemistry that these fuckers do have, he's a large part of it. He accepts his role, doesn't demand to play everyday and sets a great example in that way. The fact that he's played every position in the OF ( and some 1B), has a great arm, and is a source of right handed pop...fuck that. 28 years old as well and the agenda of the FO is to get younger. The older Ethier and his pending 10/5 rights need to hit the bricks before SVS.

Tbh we have no idea about the clubhouse "chemistry" and who contributes to it in a negative or positive way.

They shopped the hell out of Ethier in the winter. There's no reason not to do the same at the deadline. He's done well for his value...now Kemp him.

Strong case for the demise of Ruben Amaro continues to mount
by Enrico Campitelli | CSN Philadelphia — 90 minutes ago

If you didn't think the writing was on the wall when the Phillies brought in Andy MacPhail as the team's soon-to-be new president, perhaps these latest rumblings will help you believe that Ruben Amaro Jr.'s time in Philadelphia is nearing its end.

Last night, longtime baseball scribe for ESPN Jayson Stark tweeted a series of tidbits that pointed towards Amaro's powers already being reeled in when it came to attempting to trade closer Jonathan Papelbon.

If you read them as I did, they would signal a GM who no longer has final say on personnel decision.
So Amaro was pushing to deal Papelbon but the powers that operate above him wanted to hold off until the MacPhail hiring became official and the new president could sign off on it. Seems logical enough to a franchise with some huge decisions looming.

And then there was the way Amaro dropped the ball when discussing who the team's second baseman would be when Chase Utley gets healthy. Instead of being diplomatic about the decline of one of the franchise's all-time greats, Amaro was brutally honest.

“Not for me, he’s not. Cesar Hernandez is our best second baseman. I would assume that Cesar would be our second baseman. I think that’s fair," Amaro said.

    True? Probably. Fair? Eh.

That particular quote led to another tuned-in national baseball scribe to put things very bluntly.

"Amaro is going to get fired," Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal wrote yesterday. "The entire industry knows that. But he figured to last the entire season as the Phillies transition from Pat Gillick to Andy MacPhail as club president. The question now is whether ownership will simply decide that Amaro is embarrassing the franchise, and that enough is enough."

So the question surrounding Ruben Amaro seems to be changing from an "if?" to a "when?"

Given how things have gone in South Philadelphia over the past few months and years, I wouldn't expect anything to go smoothly.

The way he's swinging the bat, it'd really be nice if Turner could pick up some LF. He only has 1 inning of work in LF in his entire career, though. Olivera reached base twice in his rehab game...I thought maybe his injury was a way for him to sort of " disappear " while Turner rakes the rest of the year, but no. Olivera comin...injuries be damned. The newly crowned #16 ranked prospect in all the minors.

Alex Gordon Out Two Months With Groin Strain
By Jeff Todd [July 9, 2015 at 10:51am CDT]
10:51am: Gordon has a grade two-plus strain and is expected to miss eight weeks of action, manager Ned Yost told reporters, including McCullough (Twitter links). Surgery does not appear to be necessary, per Yost.

KC possibly in the market for OF. They turned their nose up at Ethier in the winter and went with Rios. He hasn't worked out.

    Reds
outfielder Jay Bruce is as “as good a bet as anyone” on the team to be dealt, team sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Bruce is probably a better fit in KC. Still just 28yrs old.

    • Athletics lefty Scott Kazmir left his start tonight after just three innings with triceps tightness. But after the game, he told reporters (including MLB.com’s Jane Lee, on Twitter) that the issue is “super minor” and should not cause him to miss any time. As Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reminds us, via Twitter, this is not the first time that the veteran has been forced out early from a start. And indeed, there may not be cause for concern. But the timing is obviously not great, with Kazmir shaping up to be one of the market’s more appealing rental arms.

Use to love the idea of dealing for Kazmir, but yeah...like they said there, this multiple starts where he's had to leave early with somethin. Maybe that lessens his trade value and makes him an easier get, but that injury risk tho...

I have absolutely zero idea why the Phillies would hold onto Hamels and Papelbon. Then again, this is the same team that waited for Cliff Lee to break.

Red Sox don't know what to do with Hanley. I mean other than load him up with a potential 110M.

Now they're throwin all kinds of shit against the wall...Ortiz in the field, so Hanley can DH. Lol

West Notes: A’s, Kazmir, Machi, Ibanez
By Jeff Todd [July 9, 2015 at 3:10pm CDT]

The Athletics are in a “holding pattern” on trade talks as they continue to see how things progress in the coming weeks, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (Twitterlinks). Nevertheless, likely buyers appear to be taking a close look at Oakland’s roster, as Rosenthal counts the Blue Jays, Astros, Royals, Tigers, Nationals, and Pirates among the clubs that sent scouts to last night’s game.

Maybe the Nerds have seen enough? They do know a lot about Kazmir. Or maybe they're on to the next one? Cueto. Here's hoping Olney is right.

    Latest On Eddy Julio Martinez
By Charlie Wilmoth [July 9, 2015 at 5:25pm CDT]

Top Cuban outfield prospect Eddy Julio Martinez remains unsigned a week after the beginning of the July 2 international signing period, but the Dodgers and Giants still lead the race to sign him, MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez writes. Both teams have workouts scheduled for Martinez in the coming week.

It's really fucked up that the other team is SFG. Dude's workin with a nice amount of leverage.
