I would be calling Seattle to see who they want for that young 3Bman. I'd love a starting 3Bman more than anything. Imagine not having to worry about 3B again for a good long while? And, yes, I'd be willing to move all those utility guys into a RF rotation for awhile, until Puig is ready - but a deal like that with Seattle would depend on the money, of course.
Need a 3B, SP. I'm not opposed to getting rid of DBB. They're probably not going to renew him anyway. Might as well fire him now and light a fire under all those underachieving asses.
The problem with trading for Seager is that it was rumored Seattle wanted Ethier. Many people thought that was good and dandy since we have Puig, but with all his childish antics the past month, I don't think it'd be wise to commit to him just yet. If we could get a 3B without trading anyone from the big 5, that would be cool. I don't think we'd trade for Headley, but I wouldn't be shocked if we did.
I love that Seager is a lefty bat. What a strange thing for a 3Bman. The Ethier contract is a fortune, though. I don't think we would want to eat much of that in such a deal.
There's absolutely no way Seattle trades seager for a centerpiece of Ethier. Why does that make any sense for them? That rumor was pretty much that Seattle wanted Ethier, and the dodgers sure as hell could use seager cause they have crap at 3B. But no where was it said an actual seager for Ethier was proposed. I believe it was Ethier for pitchers
Seattle made it clear they would trade ANYTHING, ANYTHING AT ALL for Andre Ethier. I didn't see any no Seager clause in there. But, whatever the Seattle deal was - Ned wasn't parting with Ethier, and he said so publicly - so that was the end of the discussion. To do a deal with Seattle now, you might have to fire Ned first and I'd explore that option, too.
I don't know if there was a deal for Seager being discussed. It would have been the obvious thing. What else of theirs would we possibly want for Ethier? But I could see Ned NOT trading for Seager because he wasn't sure Hanley would be able to handle SS long term and maybe needed to move to 3B. I could see him convinced Cruz was going to continue to play well. I could see the bitter taste left in the mouth trading Ethier after just signing him to a huge new contract. I also could see Seattle wanting Ethier and having the Dodgers paying most of that new contract. And I could also see Ned believing in his utility guys to the extent that he doesn't ever really need a starting 3Bman. So, who knows what really went down. And a lot of shit has happened since. Could a deal be done now? idk.
I'm not trying to be mean but I really really doubt thats true. I didn't read anywhere that they said they'd trade anything for Ethier. Trading seager for Ethier would make them a worse team arguably from 2013 but for sure in 2014 and on. I like Ethier and like seager but it's a no brained that Seager is more valuable According to MSTI who was all over the Ethier thing, it was proposed t was Ethier for minor league starters. Seager just came up from people who wanted a 3B. Seager could be traded for something fantastic goven that 3Bmen aren't that available and a lot of teams would love the upgrade
I'll try to find that article that popped up on mlbtr. There were comments in here at that time, too. The Seattle GM didn't say Seager specifically, he said he would take ANYTHING for Ethier - as if it was a desperate plea over the air waves to Ned directly. I have a feeling they needed some star power up there and liked Dre and figured he could fill some seats. In this exercise - what would you do if you were GM - well, I would follow up the Seattle interest in Ethier - that's for sure. We don't know what else has been going on. But I don't like the idea of sitting around, taking it on the chin every night, waiting for our luck to change. I'd try to make something happen before this season is tanked.
Yeah, because players get better when they get booed. I remember how Andruw Jones & Juan Uribe turned it around.
Oh, I thought you wanted what's best for the team and us, winning. sorry, I got you mixed up for a Dodger fan. ...and boom goes the Dynamite! :terrorist:
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah cute
Ethier needs to get more flirtatious whistles so he remembers he's good looking and that's all that matters
