I keep looking at the numbers of a lot of Mets pitchers/starters and keep pondering is Wilson Ramos making them all that much worse.
? Like all of their starters are worse than last year. Some significantly (DeGrom (still really good, but not like last year), Syndergaard, and Wheeler).

Did Wilson Ramos make Max Scherzer or Stephen Strasburg worse? I really doubt that's it, but idk.
Mets are just a shit show from top to bottom

It might not be Ramos but the Mets do have a terrible defense which doesn’t help.

Max Scherzers numbers improved after Ramos left as he is basically from 2017-2019 had the 3 best years of his career. Strasburg had the best year of his career the year after Ramos left but fell back a little last year and is a little better this year.

The Pirates-Dodgers talks about Felipe Vazquez currently bogged down in part because Pirates want No.1 prospect Gavin Lux and the Dodgers want to keep him. - Buster Olney

In light of Cervelli not catching anymore you would think they would ask about Kiebert instead. They have no catchers in their top 30 and 2 middle infielders in their top 8. Pirates suck for a reason I guess.

With training camp now underway the trade deadline is basically a pin dropping during a thunderstorm.

    Dodgers sign Tyler Thornburg
by Connor Byrne | MLB Trade Rumors — 1 hour ago

It’s not the type of relief acquisition Dodgers fans have been hoping for, but the team recently signed free agent Tyler Thornburg, Rob Bradford of WEEI relays. It’s a minor league contract for the right-hander, who had been available since the Red Sox released him July 10. Despite signing with the Dodgers before the All-Star break, Thornburg hasn’t pitched for any of their affiliates yet, according to Bradford.

The 30-year-old Thornburg has gone through a sharp, injury-caused fall from grace since a brief run as one of the game’s top relievers. Thornburg debuted with the Brewers in 2012, but it took until 2016 for him to enjoy what looked like a breakout season. That year, Thornburg recorded a sparkling 2.15 ERA/2.83 FIP with 12.09 K/9 and 3.36 BB/9 in 67 innings. The Brewers sold high on Thornburg during the subsequent offseason, sending him to the Red Sox for a pair of infielders – Travis Shaw and Mauricio Dubon – as well as righty Josh Pennington.

Boston was expecting Thornburg to be an integral part of its bullpen in 2017, but he instead missed the entire season because of shoulder problems that led to thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. While Thornburg made it back last year, he stumbled to a 5.63 ERA/6.04 FIP with 7.88 K/9 and 3.75 BB/9 in 24 innings. Thornburg wasn’t part of the Red Sox’s World Series-winning roster during the fall, and a hip impingement this season limited him to 18 2/3 frames of 7.71 ERA/5.42 FIP pitching (with 10.61 K/9 against 4.62 BB/9) before the Sox cut the cord.

Ehhhh.... he’s actually showing signs that he still has the stuff that made him the elite reliever he once was, but the Sox may have had some poor usage for him. Not saying he is suddenly going to save the pen, but he is certainly worth taking an MiLB flyer on.

In a report that I read today by the beach, but now am a bit too drunk to remember where I read it, it quoted multiple NL FO’s that have said they are sellers, whether it has been advertised or not. Feelings around the NL are that the Dodgers are just too stacked and our farm system is a bit too loaded for a few teams on the cusp. We could see a lot of selling on the 31s, but it was interesting to hear how loaded teams feel we are.

Think it was an article by Sherman from the NY post. Essentially teams saying “why should we try for a NL wild card when we’ll get stomped by the Dodgers”

Anyways, it looks more and more like Vazquez and thor won’t get traded, Ken Giles is hurt, and so we’re probably left trusting to see if Friedman can find interesting pieces and pray some of our minor league guys are ready for a big playoff role

And then there's the NY Metropolitans that are obviously living in the upside down.

Seems like the Dodgers top reliever at the moment (outside of Vazquez who isn’t available I think) is Edwin Diaz. Having a terrible year but man, he’d have the most upside of any reliever on our roster and there’s a lot to think he’ll turn it around. Edwin plus another reliever (a safe one?) would be a good deadline.
