Really hope they keep Joc. I can see why you can’t really have Joc, Pollock, Taylor, Enrique and Lux for essentially only 2 positions but, Joc is so damn good against righties. Platoon player is fair and all but, being a super good hitter ~70% of the time is extremely valuable. A guy who only crushes lefties (Pollock) isn’t that exciting but being very good for the majority of at bats? Don’t see it as that big a negative

Not sure how we could get any of their top prospects after the last rumored deal was so fucking mediocre.

there's an elephant in the room that no one seems willing to talk about
if joc and/or strip report to LAD camp, it's going to uncomfortable... for everyone
hurt feelings, bruised egos... that shit doesn't just go away and it can negatively impact everyone in the clubhouse
how hard is joc going to play for a team who didn't want him, especially since (in his mind) they fucked him in arbitration by (1) not waiting, and (2) having an independent party represent LAD instead of showing up themselves?
idk, maybe it won't affect him that way
but what if drops a "these guys don't care about you bro" or other negative remarks?
maybe he won't, but is it really worth jeopardizing the entire chemistry of the team?
there's still 42 men for 40 (roster) spots and, to me, it's an easy solution
    just my 2 cents

Red Sox denied Dodgers window to negotiate extension with Betts before trade
by Daniel Starkand | Dodger Blue — 10 February 2020

The Los Angeles Dodgers finally made the blockbuster acquisition fans have been pining for, reportedly acquiring Mookie Betts and David Price from the Boston Red Sox after a saga of negotiations led to a new agreement being reached.

Upon abandoning a three-team trade with the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins, the Dodgers now are trading Alex Verdugo, Jeter Downs and Connor Wong to Boston in exchange for Betts, Price and cash considerations.

It’s not every day that a 27-year-old, four-time All-Star and former MVP gets traded, but the reason the Red Sox decided to deal Betts was mostly financial. Boston had the highest payroll in baseball each of the last two years and want to get below the luxury tax threshold in 2020.

Additionally, Betts is in his final year of club control before reaching free agency and reports indicated that he and the Red Sox were not close to coming to an agreement in extension talks.

Early on in trade talks, it was thought that the Red Sox may allow the Dodgers a window to negotiate an extension with Betts before completing a trade. But that didn’t end up happening, per Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times:

The Red Sox would not grant the Dodgers a window to negotiate an extension with Betts, but he probably wouldn’t have engaged with them anyway because he wants to become a free agent after this season.

With Betts set to test free agency next winter, the trade is a bit of a gamble for the Dodgers as they could potentially lose him in a year. They would recoup some of the assets lost by extending a qualifying offer and receiving a draft pick if Betts signed elsewhere. But that is still nowhere near the equivalent of Verdugo and Maeda.

Betts is expected to command one of the largest contracts in baseball history once he hits the open market. The Dodgers have been hesitant to hand out long-term, lucrative deals in the past, but Betts is certainly worth breaking that mold for and it appears that L.A. will try to do so.

Regardless, this trade makes the Dodgers a much better team in 2020 as they attempt to win their first World Series since 1988.

    nope
    this is joc
the team will make it right to him
and even before they do Joc will be good either way
if he comes in pissed he will break out and become a superstar
if he comes in and they made it up to him he will continue his steady rise to stardom
i prefer he comes in a little pissed
i mean... this whole thing could be a giant work from the brass up top in cahoots with moreno to motivate Joc who is a natural monster athlete in the field and at the plate that just needs to get that little bit of edge on him to truly tap into his full potential.
watch Joc decide to get his ass to the gym and get shredded enough to go back to the physique that made him a good CF and a 30/30 guy who has 40/40 potential.
That is the leadoff hitter/CF that Joc was destined to be.
Until he got paid and invested in all you can eat ice cream and pizza.
Like what happened to me when i got my financial aid money after high school and was able to afford to buy the parts to build myself a computer. I never had to steal a porn magazine ever again!

In other news, the Dodgers will broadcast a spring training game everyday, live. I am guessing this does not mean that EVERY game will be broadcast as split squads pose problems. Still nice to have something to watch just about every day.

The #Dodgers are planning to put outfielder Joc Pederson
back on the trade block with the #Angels appearing to be
the ones who pulled out of the original deal.

Joc has the numbers. And the playoff bonafides.
Arbitration is a structure so it wont matter.
Joc does deserve a payday and he will get it.
Dude IS an all-star level player and he is trending upward.
This is his big FA year and he rather be a Dodger than go to the Angels where he would get max at bats and be more important defensively.
So he is either afraid of being exposed or he loves his teammates and the Dodgers.

I keep seeing the "Betts wants to become a free agent" thing and that was also the report out of Boston, but the Red Sox reached out to Betts 3 times over the last year to extend him and by all accounts, he countered with something like $420M over like 10-12 years each time. It was pointed out that him getting a monster deal makes no difference if it is in free agency or as an extension, so if the Dodgers offer a great deal for him, it would be best for him to sign now and provide himself with some security.

    Nah man.
That was just Betts throwing out the signal that he will resign with any team that trades for him that is located in a county that allows recreational.
Betts should join the long line of ex Boston players that are traded to LA and never look back becoming naturalized SoCal citizens.

Wait, you have to pay to have channels on their app? I have Xfinity and their app comes with every channel available for free as long as you have the cable subscription. As for sports, if you are not on your home wi-fi, you can not watch them.

Its also gonna be more important to carry better overall skilled relievers instead of min/max types that you can use for spot situations.
So it will affect roster makeups as well. I wonder how many GM's are thinking about these things when making trades right now.
Even if they are thinking about it there will still be some organizations that wont have the same level of predictive skills to allow them to understand how the rule will affect gameplay and strategy.
They have to force themselves to think differently when evaluating.
And that could be the mysterious SP/RP issue that the Red Sox had with Gatorade.
Maybe all the scouting reports on him were glossed through the lense of the previous rule set.
And now you have a new perspective from which to judge the data that changes your opinion.
