    don’t mind heyward
and wouldn’t mind kelly and brasier coming back as well
but if friedman isn’t serious about (or whiffs on) ohtani then he should re-up jd while he’s still available

    moroNsi so fwiw…

    Jon Morosi@jonmorosi
RHP Robert Stephenson has been one of the most popular free-agent relievers this offseason, sources say. Stephenson, who had a 0.678 WHIP over 42 appearances with the Rays this year, is drawing interest from the Dodgers, Cubs, and Angels, among other teams.

    love ohtani’s bat
don’t love him having a mystery arm, or elbow, or shoulder surgery that no one seems to know much about
don’t love what kersh and jt had to say about his aloofness
don’t love paying (a projected) $500-600 million for a dh
no telling if his arm recovers, and what if (hypothetically) he suddenly decides he no longer wants to pitch anymore?
and/or what if he breaks down?
imo just a lot to pay for one guy
    really hoping he signs elsewhere
preferably not in the nl west

+1 but idc if he signs in the west cause that contract is going to be an anchor on any team
if you take the last 100 contracts of massive proportion how many have been successful ? 5% maybe?
and this guy is supposed to continue as a top tier pitcher AND dh suure
he's 29 in his 6th season in the mlb no thanks
almost certain AZ sweeps in and grabs JD before the team finishes its pursuit however serious that is

All of the sturm and drang of the off season signings ( or not) is blissfully warmed by the knowledge that we still have Dave.
    But that's just me...

I’m with you. If you think about the DH spot, he’s an upgrade over JD from last year (but not really a 25m+ more upgrade candidly).

The value here needs to be his ability as a pitcher which won’t do anything for us in 2024. Hitting wasn’t our problem (on the season as a whole), so this his signing wont really move the needle for us that much in 2024.

We need some pitching for next year.

Dodger FO: " If the fans think they are going to intimidate us and our relationship with the most excellent manager, Dave Roberts, by complaining about his almost 100% failures, then we say to them: ' Go fuck yourself'...
"We heard that recently from a rich guy, so we're cool".

Look, none of us like it, but the Dodgers front office is gonna do what's best for business. That means getting as many people buying what they're selling as possible. And unfortunately, in this state, "woke" sells. In other states, winning sells. Here, you look for ways to check boxes, the more the better, even at the expense of winning. Same reason that all these shitty politicians are in office. Doesn't matter if the state is being run into the ground, as long as the voters prioritize wokeness over safety, education, roads, etc. Trust me, if taint-tanning was an approved woke activity, SF would still have the same manager. Unfortunately for Gabe, he didn't check any boxes, although he should've just come out of the closet - authentically or not - and there's no way he'd have lost his job. For all we know Walter, Kasten, Friedman et al are extreme conservatives in their private lives, but they're not going to let that get in the way of the bottom line.

I don't know, maybe there was nobody else at the moment even semi qualified, but I bet Melvin gets a short leash. As least compared to Roberts.

A loser who keeps getting jobs.

Probably got hired because he looks like Bob Sagget.

And a worthy criteria it is...
Dave gets rehired because he looks like Alvin the chipmmunk with his cheeks full of winter acorns.
