oh yeh and Price...he's probably the most realistic of everyone that's been discussed even though he's not a free agent yet. if word gets around that the Dodgers are gonna give him a big deal he'd have no reason to agree to sign elsewhere and other teams would beware of dealing for him. doubt Tampa would get that great a package from another team if that team can't get Price to commit...nobody's giving up a big package for a rental.

he was just saying that 1 guy can't cover everything...i agree. however, i never said 1 guy could cover all their faults

you don't want Cano becaaaauuuse? too expensive? what if ownership only cares about the years on his contract and not the money?

They suck. Therefore Trout doesn't make us instant winners either. Do you get it now?

For a lot of reasons people I'm sure have said in this thread already.

I'd take Cano for the right deal. My worry is eventually this ownership group is going to get to a point where they won't write all these massive contracts.

Kershaw will get the biggest contract of all time, once we have him locked up then go crazy folks sign Cano, Price, Jamie McCourt to give leathery pre-game handjobs, whomever you want.

I don't want to hear us going all in on Cano and then hear Kasten say 300/10 for Kershaw is suddenly too much.

    THAT'S my concern.

Max years I'd go on Cano is 5 years with an option.
Max years for Hanley I'd go is 4 years.

5yrs with a player option after the 3rd year for Cano, 150M ( likely not worth that much, but to outbid the Yankees it'll probably take that much...so be it)
4yrs with a player option after the 2nd year for Hanley, 125M
Greinke-like player options just to keep the possibility of more money in front of them

There's always that one team that will offer a long contract though. I bet Cano gets 7 or 8 years. Not from us, but someone will go that far.

probably the Angels lol. i don't even think the Yankees are going 7-8 years...i can see 6 though. in that instance we'd have to hope Cano really wants to play with Hanley, likes LA, and wants to play on a team that's in better position to win...otherwise ownership would turn away.

there was an earlier report that Cano does wanna team with Hanley in the middle infield...

I believe Detroit is that team if they don't win the WS. Their owner is desperate.

I would never rule Cano out as management is saying the exact same things about him as they did last year about Greinke. I just feel he would be a last resort if we miss on Guerrero and/or Kendrick. Truth is, if we get Cano, I will be ecstatic. May not be the best long term contract, but he is still the best 2B in the game and I would be just fine with that in the line up.

agreed. i don't know how i forgot about them. good call

any one of those 3 would help. they could obviously save some dough if they went with Guerrero or Kendrick ( not that they need too)...might open them up to McCann

    latest report from an insider:
i like it. even though CC's a bad contract as well, he's our best defensive outfielder, brings some speed, and obviously takes his cuts at the very top of the lineup and we can use all of those things. just have to manage CC's health and give him days off...if they add a Kendrick that can hit at the very top of the lineup that'd help with that.

it's not like they need to free up money to sign Cano, but if they dealt Kemp and Ethier it would do just that and maybe everyone would stop whining about how ownership is spending Time Warner's money. i wonder how much money they'd have to send with both Kemp and Ethier though. the Mariners had a pretty decent CF once before and they're searching for a bat...could be a match there. i have no idea who'd want Ethier...Boston used to like him and he'd fit their park...they can afford him for sure, but they just got out of " money trouble "...ownership would probably have send half the money left on his deal with him.

go ahead and call Joc up and let him play ball with the big boys. starting CF...that'd be a pretty good defensive outfield with CC-Joc-Puig. what were we giving up for Kendrick?...i don't remember

    Puig RF
    CC LF
    Hanley SS
    AGon 1B
    Kendrick 2B
    McCann/AJ C
    Uribe 3B
    Joc CF

    Kersh/Greinke/Price/Tanaka/Ryu/Nolasco

Dodgers aren't giving up that much when they can simply wait until Price becomes a free agent and just outbid everybody
