    Food for thinkers:

Even with crashing into a couple of walls and playing hurt Kemp in 2012 put up the following numbers

    At bats- 403
    Avg- 303
    Hr- 23
    RBI- 69
    Ops- 906
    Slg- 538

i didn't say Cal would manage better because his dad was a manager, but if you say it like that it makes it look like you have a point, so i get it. the point is that Mattingly lacks in both experience and in game management, so what will they miss about him other than his leadership and management of personalities? Ripken could probably bring the same there...he's the same soft spoken kind of guy and we know Mattingly doesn't have a wealth of experience, so there's no real advantage there...not like Baker's experience advantage over Mattingly's.

admittedly, Mattingly didn't start thinking about being a manager until his last couple seasons as a player. who knows if managing is always something that Ripken always wanted to do, but it wouldn't shock anybody because a lot of kids wanna be like their dad. that's the short of it. neither one of us knows if Ripken Jr was prepped to be a manager when he was coming up under his pops, but it's a realistic possibility.

aside from all that, Ripken was just a name i tossed out because he's been talked about as a candidate for the Nationals' job. i should've known the Ripken would take off like a rocket ship in this thread where people have bad opinions of Robinson Cano's homerun pose. lol i mean i've given Mattingly his due as far as leadership and managing personalities, but not enough i suppose. i'll have to make a thread about and beat it into some heads like i've done with this thread about the lineup's shortcomings.

what's the gamble? we were 2 games away with Don Mattingly as manager.

yeh, and we were 2 games away shitty defense and all. think about it. HITTING is what cost us and Guerrero supposedly HITS.

SOME of you that don't. not " many ". some of you get that Cano on a 5yr deal is a good buy for a team that 1) can't rely on their best 3-hole hitter to stay healthy and in the lineup and 2) cares more about the length of the contract than the total amount due to him

    R Puig
    L Cano
    R Hanley
    L AGon
    R Kemp
    L McCann
    R Uribe
    L CC

    that'd be just terrible

I don't really understand the Joc Pederson obsession. We've had virtually zero luck with non-pitching prospects since we had Kemp, Ethier, Martin, and Loney all come up around the same time (Puig is a special/different case).

Seems silly to me to trade Kemp and/or Ethier (2-time all stars) and just hand the job to a guy with the problems that Ford stated (.206 avg against LHP and a 270 avg in AA). I know batting average doesn't tell the whole story, but I'm assuming you guys get the point.

no luck huh...ok, so lets give up on Seager too then. fuck it.

i don't like his BA vs lefties either, but he's also pulling that .206 average without hitting in front of someone like Hanley. he walks and he steals bases and gets in scoring position as well. Joc has 20-25SB potential. this is a very good athlete that we're talking about. his defense is tight and he's young/durable. there's plenty of upside there and reason to give him a shot...especially if they sign Cano and move Hanley and AGon a spot back in the order...AGon would essentially be hitting in Kemp's 5-hole spot.

nobody's ever mentioned how Kemp may react to being moved down in the order over the long haul. if they sign Cano and keep Kemp...Kemp's looking at guaranteed 6-hole status and he admittedly " loves hitting 3rd. " you could say " well, we pay you a lot of money to hit wherever Kemp! ", but the reality is he still may not like the idea. this is a guy who was voted the #1 player in baseball at the start of 2012. but we'll see how it all shakes out. either way, Ethier has to go. he's really not bringing anything to the table except his hitting vs. right handers and our lineup hits right handers just fine without Ethier...Hanley and Puig hit righties, AGon hits them, Kemp's not great against righties, but he's not " Ethier against lefties bad " against righties, CC can do some damage against righties. lefties are the bigger problem. it'd make sense to add a couple right handed bats like Kendrick's and Guerrero's to the lineup

    http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2013/11/10/5087800/david-price-rays-extension-trade-rumors

...basically saying that some teams are aware of the Dodgers' interest in Price and the money they could give Price if he reaches free agency, so those teams want Price locked up long term if they're gonna send a package of prospects to TB for him. so Price has some control in this thing kinda like Justin Upton rejected going to Seattle last year. if Price wants to play in LA he can kinda push in that direction...i'd say the Angels are probably gonna be our biggest competition for Price for however long this last. they abosolutely need pitching and they have some pieces to offer in a trade...possibly a Trumbo package.

I was reading this thread and came upon this. That would be my good friend Koufax. My guess is he calls him chinchilla because he's "soft". Nevermind that he got injured because he ran into a wall, most guys run into walls and bounce off, get up, and play harder than before. :whack: He also calls Billingsley the 'Tin Man' because he has no heart, as evidenced in the playoffs waaaay back in '08 when he wouldn't retaliate when the opposing pitcher hit one of the Dodgers players.:smh: This is as funny to me as some of the current posters calling Ethier 'heartless' because he doesn't display much emotion. I've always been for players showing emotion, you know, like when Kevin Brown punched the wall and broke his fucking hand. We need more of that in our players.:stirpot:
