this week in puig speculation... TODAY: Joel Sherman of the New York Post suggests a midseason deal sending Andre Ethier to the Yankees for Jose Ramirez and Mason Williams. Sherman reasons that the Yankees will want to boost their offense and find a replacement for Curtis Granderson while the Dodgers will have Yasiel Puig waiting in the wings. TUESDAY: In spite of being sent to Double-A today by the Dodgers, Yasiel Puig has been so impressive that he may enable the club to effectively buy even more young talent from other clubs, writes Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. As Rosenthal explains, if L.A. is able to replace either Carl Crawford or Andre Ethier with Puig, they could then offer to pay for much of the balance of the contracts of those expensive veterans to extract quality prospects from a trade partner. According to an unnamed rival executive, "It's smart actually -- the only way to really build a farm system under the new rules. And you can only do it if you've got big dollars." MONDAY: Cuban slugger Yasiel Puig is forcing the Dodgers' hand with his monster performance in Spring Training, Olney writes. While the team clearly has no place for him to play given the presence of Carl Crawford, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier, the buzz he's generating and intrigue from scouts could force the team to consider him for a quick promotion to complement Ethier and/or Crawford against left-handed pitching. __
what 'we' the team needed was for him to go down to AA for the contract stipulated 30 days so that the Dodgers can lock him up for an extra season. As much as I think we could use his potent bat immediately, it was the right thing to do... for 30 days... On Day 31 get his ass back here and whomever has the lower stat line in the Dodger OF should sit. Crawford and Ethier both have 30 days to make themselves relevant. Kemp gets an extra 30 days to heal simply because he's our main stud OF. If at any time during those 30 days ANY other Dodger plays ANY innings in the OF then it is a strike against whichever of the three went down. Here me Crawford? But come June 1 if all three are not hitting .300+ and Puig is not starting in the Dodger lineup then we fucked up big time. Puig himself has been pretty good about dropping to AA so far. A good sign. And Puig has done his part by raising his average from .521 to .526. Get this kid back here stat!!
if he keeps producing he'll be back soon enough playing every day in aa >>> spot starts with the big club the more he plays the better... for both him and the team
Damn right Puig is forcing their hands... and... ??? Ball is in Dodger court let's see what they do. So So thankful McCrook is gone... Mason Williams is young and might have some upside..in 3 years... but Ramirez hasn't ever climbed out of single A as a pitcher so forget him. IF Ethier needs to be traded (cuz no one wants Crawford) then he needs to bring us something much better... like Cano!
The decision on Puig will be made in a month. The team will be able to evaluate CC, Kemp, and Ethier and a decision will be made then. If CC look good and seems recovered, it will be Ethier who is let go. Ethier should net us one nice young pitcher and a could be bat or A an up an coming bat and a pitcher who has good upside. There are teams still DYING for power and offense. Ethier has a nice contract and supplies both.
Carl recovering to return to being a better overall player than Ethier is highly suspect. Highly. Ethier can't hit lefties but Carl can't throw past the cut off man. BRING ON THE PUIG!!
I feel that's it's blasphemous that so many people are down with trading Dre. I feel like any person who feels that way should be banned from being a Dodger fan for a week. Just for a week, so you can think about your wrongings. Dre has been in blue his entire career and has expressed a great passion to this organization by wanting to come back even before we had Hanley, A-Gon, and the like. It's insanity. Dre is the most consistent player on our team and has the chance to become a lifelong Dodger. But because he "can't hit lefties" (which is over-stressed because he struggles mostly with lefty relievers who are paid specifically to get left handed batters out) and we have a prospect who has as many as 150 professional ABs, let's just get rid of him! Don't get me wrong, I believe Puig has some great potential, but he's making Dodger fans talk out of their asses. So yeah, let's turn on Dre, the last of the Dodger trio still here along with Kemp and Kershaw. If we trade Dre, then why are we even called the Dodgers? The only "Dodgers" that would still be here that mean anything would be Kershaw and Kemp. Blasphemy.
Your right, we should sign Loney and ship that Padre POS out of here. Beg Russel to come back, give Andy LaRoche everything he wants to make sure we have a Dodger 3rd baseman, bring Dee back up and start him over Hanley, tell League to kick rocks we want Broxton back, ... ect. I want to win, and if trading Ethier is a move that facilitates it then yea I'd do it. I've never even seen a Dodger team close to sniffing the WS (dominated by Philly 2 years in a row in the NLCS isn't close) and am desperate to. I'd prefer getting rid of Crawford but lets be real here folks, he has far less trade value than Ethier.
Is Seager some kind of defensive Guru with extreme upside? I mean, he can hit 20 HR and also has a lot of doubles which is great but is there more to the fascination?
Yea I know, just trying to get my inner dave on. Maybe if we trade Stephen Fife, John Ely, Dee Gordon, and Juan Uribe while paying his entire salary it would work.
