    Awesome! :)

Common sense dictates they make a deal to not risk alienating every sports fan in LA but, then again, I saw yesterday that Charles Ergen, Dish chairman, is the richest man in Colorado (worth 13.7 B) so all I can do is hope he GAF!

I hope it does but they did let the entire Lakers season go last year and I haven't heard shit about new negotiations.

I'm just hoping the Dodgers and Lakers going will get them off their asses.

Nomar Garciaparra joins Dodgers broadcasting crew

Plans for the Dodgersnew regional sports network, SportsNet LA, are still being formulated, but there is progress.

Nomar Garciaparra has been hired as a new commentator by the Dodgers, according to a person familiar with the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Garciaparra, who was born in Whittier and went to Bellflower St. John Bosco High School, spent three seasons playing for the Dodgers and has been an ESPN analyst for the last four years.

Garciaparra is expected to do pre- and post-game commentary and be utilized on both the television and radio broadcasts. Roles are still being defined.

The Dodgers are also pursuing ex-Dodger Orel Hershiser to be an announcer and the future broadcasting face of the team, according to USA Today. Hershiser is also currently with ESPN, though is contract will soon expire.

Garciaparra, 40, hit .303 with 20 home runs and 93 runs batted in during his first season with the Dodgers in 2006 and was named the National League comeback player of the year. He retired following the 2009 season, completing a 14-year major league career.

He was a six-time All Star and a two-time batting champion. He is married to former United States soccer superstar Mia Hamm.

At the end of last season it was learned the Dodgers would not bring back commentators Eric Collins and Steve Lyons. The Dodgers’ contract with Time Warner is expected to be approved by Major League Baseball prior to spring training.

Need a good play by play guy when Vin retires. It'd be hard to get someone good to commit to 162 games a year. Al Michaels is a local guy. Bob Costas is great. But they have their national gigs--why take a job with a team?

Idk how they'll find anyone the fans will like.

I LOVE the idea of Nomar+Orel together. I liked them on ESPN for the most part, and having a pitchers point of view and a positions player point of view can be very interesting and engaging. Problem is that they are analysts more then they are play by play.

But I like the hire cause I love Nomar.

I think you're asking for too much. Vin has definitely spoiled us as the best announcer there is right now. But Nomar and Orel aren't Hawk Harrelson. They're good announcers and fan favorites. I'm sure if Vin ever retires and those two become our announcers, people will embrace them for being good announcers as well as Dodger heroes.

Like Doyer said, they just need a good play by play guy, and I have a feeling they can get better and better. Nomar has only been doing this for a while.

You misunderstood me to the max. Orel and Nomar have nothing to do with what I was talking about (play by play).

Nomar and Orel are color commentators/analysts. Your comparison to Hawk makes no sense---he has a completely different job.

Old bulldogs never die, they just come back in a new incarnation.
Orel Hershiser, the Dodgers’ former Cy Young winner and last World Series MVP, is returning as a team television broadcaster, according to two people familiar with the situation who spoke to The Times on the condition of anonymity.
Hershiser adds another big name to the broadcasting crew for the Dodgers’ new regional sports network, SportsNet LA.
Last week the Dodgers added former team infielder Nomar Garciaparra as a commentator. The Dodgers are also adding Alanna Rizzo from MLB Network to their pre- and post-game shows.
Hershiser, like Garciaparra, joins the Dodgers from ESPN. Hershiser spent most of the last seven years as a baseball analyst at the sports cable giant.
The hires are expected to be announced this week.
Hershiser will take over an expanded version of Steve Lyons' past role as a television broadcaster. Lyons and Eric Collins were not retained after their contracts expired at the end of the season.
Hershiser, 55, has worn several different hats since retiring in 2000 after an 18-year career. He was briefly a player-personnel consultant for the Dodgers, a pitching coach, assistant general manager and executive director of the Texas Rangers, and threw in with Steve Garvey in a bid to purchase the Dodgers during Frank McCourt’s bankruptcy sale.
Now he’s going to work for the ownership group that did win the bid, Guggenheim Baseball Management. ESPN had an option to equal any offer Hershiser received, but reportedly elected not to match.
The Dodgers have yet to finalize all their plans for SportsNet LA, but there are expected to be several Dodgers-themed shows Hershiser will also be a part of.
Garciaparra will work pre- and post-game commentary on both television and radio. The six-time All-Star played three years for the Dodgers.
Rizzo is a well-respected television reporter who spent the last two seasons with MLB after five years as a sideline reporter for the Colorado Rockies.
