Agreed. What I meant by that comment is that Strasburg will always be the "sexier" player because he throws 100 mph and was the phenom 1st overall pick and has the jaw dropping upside, while Kershaw is the same age and already 40% of the way to being a HoFer
Kershaw is a beast. All my friends, who are Dodger haters b/c of the cash we spent in the offseason, are even going nuts over him.
Strasburg throws over 100 mph and that is sexy. But he's shown far below average durability and only average to below average game smarts. If he can't strike you out with heat then he's fairly normal and he's even getting his heater lit up because hitters can sit on it waiting. That doesn't happen with Kershaw. Kershaw has already won a Cy Young. He could have won two or more by now with a competent amount of run support. Kershaw started the year with a 16 inning scoreless stretch and he's barely warmed up. Strasburg needs to have at least two stellar complete seasons before this conversation is anything more meaningful than pointless media fodder.
That's an overstatement. Strasburg is not Kershaw but he's among the top 10 pitchers in the game. He's never anywhere close to "fairly normal" considering he has two of the best pitches on the planet and a third very good pitch.
Strasburg can have any number of pitches but until he can demonstrate that he can get outs with something other than heat then hitters will camp waiting for the heater. Kershaw is a consummate all around pitcher who can get you out with whichever pitch your not expecting. I like Strasburg and hope that his TJ rebuilt elbow will hold up for a while so he can show his 100 mph skills but for today? He's Top 10 only if we pronounce a huge gap between Top 5 and Top 10 pitchers. I think voters could come up with at least 5 pitchers better than what Strasburg has accomplished to date. Maybe this year he'll stay healthy and bring it all together... ...to catch a glimpse of the "Kershaw for Cy Young" train which has already left the station...

Mike Petriello over at http://www.mikesciosciastragicillness.com/ said something similar when it looked as though a deal might get done before opening day, so their is probably so validity to it. If talks haven't broken off for the season, I have to believe they are very close.
I can't imagine contract talks are ever off the table when God-like money is involved. Rumors aside, if you add up all the pieces: Verlander's contract, the Guggs, Kershaw, etc... $200 million/8 years is the likely starting point.
Yeah over 200 million can for marketing purposes be a dollar over 200 million. His agent would like that extra dollar because it will all come out as Kershaw got over 200 million.
