yeah i mean i'm thrilled to get mccourt out we all are but there's really no guarantee we don't get someone just as bad or worse
The day to day operations would be handled obviously by baseball guys so even though having a former player of Magic's caliber can be risky I think his recruiting skills would outweigh any fears.
I think we are going to see a combination of the following two win:Magic Johnson/Stan Kasten: Could soon be joined by richest man in L.A., Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong.Rick Caruso/Joe Torre: Not out of the running in the Soon-Shiong sweepstakes This team seems to have the cash, the willingness to spend, an understanding of finance and pretty clear understanding of baseball. If this team were to win, I could see a number of things happening quickly. I think Ned is gone. I think DBB is seated well. I think that we are big bidders in FA. I think that attendance will be record breaking. I think that there will be immediate plans to build a new DS and the land currently occupied will be a football stadium. I think a short term deal with Fox is reached for an insane figure and plans are already in place for a BLUE Network. I could even see Fox in the background of that deal as a minority owner to ensure that Time Warner is not. I think McCourt's only goal will be cash but I also think there are those in LA who will now ensure we do not do McCourt Part II. I am also holding out hope that McCourt's flight out of LA will only contain him, his sons, and his ex wife and it will meet a small mountain. The new owners (and Bud) realize that they now have to spend money to get back the LA fans. Magin and Soon-Shiong are LA guys who get this. Torre is another guy who likes to spend in FA if the farm does not have what he needs for a winner. He was spoiled in NY and I think that McCourt's unwillingness to add in the offseason to a team that was one round from the WS pissed him off and made him look bad. He will want to rectify that. And, say what you will, Torre is a guy that big wigs like to be associated with.
Let them beg to differ...they'd be flat out wrong. That's because they might think winning is what I'm writing about. The Yankees have been the best team in BB history...no doubt about it. But winning more than anyone else does not break the color barrier and change not only the game, but America forever. One of the most important cultural events in this country's history, hands down. The Yankees never opened up the whole world to BB like the Dodgers did... they went to Japan when the Yankees were making YooHoo commercials. They were absolutely pivotal in cultivating the huge and thriving BB business there. The Dominican Republic...the Dodgers changed the game and made it an international sport. A unique team with innovators and far- seeing people in control for years. Moving to LA and opening up the whole of the west coast and even, by osmosis, Canada, to BB. The Yankees don't even come close. A distant second, if that. I don't care how many WS they've won. Apples and oranges.
Yes, he did. If I recall, he was just about done with Ned and McCourt at that point. Our need for one more pitcher cost us a WS birth and everyone knew it.
Yeah, he does sound for real. I'm still iffy on him, he could either be really good or really bad. Here's an interview of him on Mason and Ireland: http://espn.go.com/espnradio/losangeles/play?id=7556057
I'm sure the food choices would sit well with Lasorda: I And like what he has to say about beer and parking: But this kind of jumps out at you: So, we would have a team full of over-paid retreads, but no one would really care. It would be a well fed front office - obese and stupid - but very happy. The fans would not care either, they would be drunk on cheap beer and have trolleys to cart their drunk asses across the parking lots to sleep it off in their cars. Our team would be floating around 3rd place all the time - (the K's keeping us out of the cellar) - but we'd all have a helluva good time.
But you gotta like the fact that food, beer prices, and transportation are on his priority list. And if he's willing to take responsibility for Ned's mistakes, then more power to him.
i have to imagine it is he doesn't want to say anything that may alienate anyone no matter how inept ned is and of course he addressed the obvious parking and concessions
