?? Other than seeing Cueto go to the fucking vaGiants I must have missed the news you're sharing... link??
Yeah I figured.. So old deep pockets GG and the saber-kiddy brain trust loses a Cy Young winner Greinke to save coin and then loses the bidding for Price, Cueto and every other competent SP and then.. and then the only SP we grabbed, Iwakumi, fails a physical?!? So the saber-kiddy's clearly don't believe in doing homework either then it seems? I guess 'old school' has officially been kicked to the curb... good luck with that 'winning' thing
may have dodged a bullet i wasn't a fan of this signing since it was announced and i would have said the same thing had we signed zack and/or price ERA not as good as advertised when you factor in his FIP and for two years... i'd rather pass and not risk blocking urias/holmes/deleon et al if we're gonna rebuild for the coming years (which i'm reluctantly coming to grips with) then let's not clog the arteries with an injured average 35 y/o pitcher
or maybe not brandon mehcarthy 2.0 Bill Plunkett ✓ @billplunkettocr Confirmed that issues arose during Hisashi Iwakuma's physical with #Dodgers. LAD has not closed the door to signing him, talks ongoing. 11:03 AM — 17 Dec 2015
What a fucking disaster of an off season so far. Welcome your third place Los Angeles Dodgers They will probably still sign Iwakuma, but for less money, which will make the front office happy because they can pocket more
this and i love all the chest-pounding "we're still the team to beat in the nl west" posts no really i do not hating on those guys at all i admire their passion and (perhaps, ill-advised) loyalty i just can't agree with them
Well they're still projected ahead of both the Giants and Dbacks. Not by much, so they need to make some moves.
Ummm, yeah, the physical is PART of the homework so yeah, they're doing it. And they found a tumor...so now they go for a second opinion before making any decisions. I think the butthurt from not keeping Grienke is overshadowing the positive here. At least they didn't find out afterwards like with that Giant bum they signed several years ago.
Tell me Keem-O-Sabe, how does signing Iwakura block the minors leaguers when Anderson is on a one year leash?
I look at it this way...at least now tbey have a radiologist who can read the results of an MRI. That's something. And just a thought...if you back out on a guy because he fails a physical ( and you should, imo...duh...), why would you contemplate keeping him for less money? Does his lesser pay make the booboo go away? Wow! Who knew? You can't negotiate a draft pick , right?
It all depends on the nature of the booboo. Some booboos you stay the fuck away from, others you might gamble on if the reward outweighs the risk.
Could just he me, but this off season, and what has just happened to the Dodgers alone, with Chapman and now this " difference" in physical results, to me begs the question asking how are these things possible within the framework of baseball? There was no info on Chapman available, obligatory or otherwise? By the Reds or the Players union or MLB itself? And how do two very closely timed physicals show such widely divergent results? Probably just my suspicious nature, but....
