I didn't read through the whole list but I'll start with small things and build up. We need more power (or even a threat) off the bench. Someone here posted how we had the least amount of pinch hit home runs or something of that nature. Plus, I'm sick of seeing Abreu and Rivera in late-game situations. I say we get a lefty/righty combo like Ibanez or Overbay (lefties) and De Rosa or Johnny Gomes (righties). Now onto the bigger. With Bills' health so uncertain I feel like we need to get serious about Greinke. Not only would that shore up the rotation, but I feel like it would put us over the top. For you Greinke haters I'll settle and say that if we don't get him then we should pursue a Peavy/Kuroda combo. My preference is obviously Greinke though. His addition to CK, Bills, and Beckett would be an elite starting rotation IMO. Oh, and getting a backup catcher that could get a hit every once in awhile would be cool too.
someone who hits lefties well but is a good CF so kemp can move to RF when ethier sits, even if the 4th doesnt have a lot of power
I suggested Hunter in the other thread but Gomes works too. I am not as down with Kuroda as a I am with Sanchez right now. I also am all about the Peavy. Of course, I would be willing to go Sanchez/Kuroda.
The steals of this FA class will be: Sanchez, Myers, Hunter, Mike Adams, and Shields (if he is bought out--won't happen). I think Peavy will cost. I think Kuroda will get 13 million a year. I think Jackson is getting a nice contract. Same with Losche.
Hunte would be sick as a right handed brotha off the bench. idk if he accepts that from anyone other than the Anals, although he and Kemp are tight.
Hunter would be sweet, but expensive. Maybe he'd take a discount to play for a contender, and he's friends with Matt. I feel like if the Angels wanted him back he'd stay though. Sanchez would probably be a better option than Kuroda, but we could always sign Kuroda on a one year deal, while someone will overpay for Sanchez.
for colletti its always been pitching pitching pitching. looks like we will retain league, and choate did his job for us, shut down lefties while avoiding his arm falling off. dont think wright should be back even though he wasnt that bad as a 6th inning guy. really intrigued by the interest in kyuji fujikawa. our bullpen would become a strength again when we were last in the playoffs. as far as starters the team isnt going to splurge, especailly in somebody like grienke who already brings his risks. they are gonna call kuroda if he wants to comeback or see about peavy wanting a short deal to bridge the gap to when lee is ready. or see if the price is not too high on one of the rays arms as its expected price or shields will be put on the market. then its just the bench. need two versatile bats. presumably one thats a good at hitting lefties that can spell *cough*platton, ethier. the lineup is likely set the question is whether gordon or cruz get in the lineup.
Fedex not ready...not close at all, IMO. We must upgrade at backup catcher. The pitching is the most imperative spots to fill....with Harang Utan and Capuano with a year left each, Blanton a FA, Bills up in the injury air, our starters need some serious acquisitions here. Next year I think Beckett's gone to FA, too. So that's 3 of the starting 5 and no Blanton, gone. There's also CK and his extension, etc., and his CY self to address, too. There's always anyone the Giants don't resign, and Ned will probably gobble 'em up quickly. How about Jason Schmidt? Our bench is average at best. Maybe below. Need something there for sure. No matter who we sign, by July/ August, the concern and multitude of statements about the LAD will be that we will be "one bat away".
David Ross has been one of the best back up catchers I've seen. I know he's getting older but he can hit.
I've always liked David Ross and Henry Blanco as backups. Torrealba would.ve been good too as a backup, but I think he's sucked ass lately so nevermind.
that old man was awesome i sometimes watch the younger guy that likes to paint whales that show is good for when your blood pressure gets up
