I'm not mad or depressed about the Dodgers losing. I'm mad at the Cardinals winning. Thinking of those douches succeeding.
I think I'm one of the few here that doesn't hate other teams like the sox or cards. I'm jealous of them. Every ducking time that team is in a position to go all the way. But they beat us. Whether it's Boston or Detroit, I hope the AL wins.
I think taking Hanley out was bush, period, end of story! I also think the rest of the pitching staff channeled their inner Chad Billingsleys and pussed out!
I don't really think about what could have been because they didn't deserve it. They played oh so very bad. Just unfortunate it had to be the Cardinals getting the last laugh as always. THat's what eats at me. I know I'll get to watch the Dodgers try again next year. I just wish the Cards didn't get to go on.
Not that it matters much at all, but now I actually have to pull for the Red Sox...not ideal for me, anyway. And when I think about the trades and signings not only with the Gonzo, Crawford, etc. thing, but in the past also....they have come out way ahead. Way. they're in it. We're not. That bothers me. Money obviously well spent, and obviously well , very well, gotten rid of. Superior maneuvering, IMO. The Cardinals, too just have a great organization from owner/GM on down, and constantly come up with players and winning teams, no matter if Pujols walks or not. And players like Craig and Carpenter and little shits like Robinson, who in the most important game of the year to date, owned our best pitcher hands down. We don't have guys like that it seems. And if we blame it on all the injuries, what about their best hitter, Craig? They find a way....we don't.....they go to the WS, we don't... they pull out the close ones, we don't. We spent a boatload of money, and still something is missing. The "one player away" is a state of affairs that seems to be infinitly open-ended with the LAD, no matter how much the owner spends. Some GMs know how to do it all and who/which players to get. Others could spend a trillion, and would still fail. Something intangible is missing....something that ultimately decides our fate as bridesmaids at best. Until we face that, and do what's neccessary, we'll maybe be in the dance, but no one will take us home...all the way home.
BZ, you are overlooking the fact that this ownership is only less than 2 years in. It'll obviously take longer than that to develop the farm system to any level of the Cardinals. Remember how badly the farm system was left by McCunt. You are right but about it, but all we could do is spend money until the farm is more stocked. That intangible missing is time and health IMO. And IMO, saying the RedSox are WAY better because they're in and we're not is a bit brutal. Injuries killed us even if you look as far back as April and May...the result is loss of home field advantage. We beat the Cards soundly at home 2 games. Starting the series off at home might of been all the difference in the world. Bottom line is it's just a 1-2 win difference.
i get that there's (potentially) a lot to look forward to in the coming year/years but after years and years of disappointment after disappointment, it's hard not to share bluezoo's pain and lack of faith looking ahead something struck me last night, and it hit me in the face like a brick (metaphorically)... the last time we appeared in the world series i was in my 20's -- my 20's! wasn't much older than guys like chris, doyer and tb i'm now nearly twice as old, having spent the past 25+ years hoping/praying/begging for something magical to happen and yet each year i'm let down... over and over again its like my own personal groundhog day movie life/culture/generations changing dramatically and historically and yet the one constant being the team -- our team -- failing and flailing away year after year do i have right to complain, or am i spoiled by my youth?... world series appearances in 1974, 1977, 1978, and winning it all in 1981 and 1988 lol, i remember the time from '81-'88 feeling like an eternity if i only knew what lay ahead... well, here's to hoping the young guys here don't have to endure what us old timers have had to i would hate for our them to have to go through their 30's, 40's, 50's without a single ws appearance :blind:
^I'm frustrated too, but that doesn't mean I'm blind to the fact we just survived two terrible ownerships and now that is not the case. We almost made it in the first full year. In this first full year we went farther than we have since 1988! This ownership gets it...all the way around and has the resources too. FOX had the money, but spent it like idiots...almost everytime. McCunt didn't have as much money, but spent it poorly when there wasn't much to spend on and then destroyed the most important thing...the farm system. The new guys have the money and the right plan...the farm system. Either Ned or don are going to have more success or improvement or they will be gone.
totally agree on everything you say and am cautiously optimistic looking forward just become a bit jaded/bitter/circumspective/cynical
