I must say I like the idea of a wimpy team with one good pitcher coming out of nowhere and knocking off the Red Sox.
early post of the year candidate or the opposite more teams competing for the same players i don't like a one game playoff should be a minimum of three games
I'm also not a huge fan of a one-game playoff BUT I like the idea of a 1-game playoff burning a team's top pitcher (whereas a 3-game playoff would make it possible for their top pitcher to go twice in the next round), too much time off could hurt the division winners by making them stale, and the biggest reason is that baseball should never be played in November - and we are already there.
I never liked the wild card playoff format. I liked it the old way better. Didn't do enough to win the division? Too bad. No playoffs. Teams really earned their playoff spot back then. Making the playoffs meant more too.
I hate the new playoffs format. I grew up with the wildcard and was fine with that. For the purist, I guess you could say that the wildcard teams lose out as they would have to start their ace to advance and play the division winner who would have their ace up against their #2. But what if that's us? There's too much change going on. Playoffs expansion, interleague play everyday next year (or is 2014 when the Astros move?) and we already have the godawful All-Star rule for the World Series. Baseball was fine as it was. The only change they should make is dropping a few games back to 154, Start earlier in March so we don't have to go through that long of a season.
There are 162 fucking games in a season, why should the 2nd loser get a chance? I just hope it ends here. This ain't Vegas Dream bitch, you don't get one more chance! It's game over, you're penniless, lol.
Some awesome Pirate teammates too. 'We Are Family' indeed. Seriously though, that fucking sucks. Feel bad for him.
it's official http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=sh-henson_wild_card_playofff_change_approved_030212 http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120229&content_id=26927024&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
Imagine guys....in 09 when we had the best record in the NL but almost choked the division....if this expanded wild card was in tact and we indeed got the Wild Card...we would have had to play a one game playoff to get to the division series.
the one game thing is dumb, just play 3. the 1st Wild Card team gets a choice as to play the 1st two at home or the last two at home. I'd like it way more if it was that way. but noooo, we need drama
I might be off on this, but I believe there have been 17 seasons with the Wild Card, and 5 times a WC has won the whole thing. That means statistically you are more likely to win a WS as a WC than a division winner, and that needs to stop. In the new format I think we will see a lot less of the Marlins, Cardinals, Rockies, and Red Sox in the World Series. Win your division fuckers!
you really think that's not just a coincidence? flip a coin 50 times you could get 50 straight one way.
