Regardless of what happens how fucking amazing is it that we can fantasize about signing Greinke and trading for Shields and it actually being not only possible but if we want to then probable.

His off season home with the Cardinals is in Orange County which sort makes it his home now.

Ok, Hanson was a nickel and dime hitter and a good one. When we had a team of nickles he got them to perform well. We then traded for boppers and that didn't work out as well and McGwire was a biggggggggggggg bopper as a hitter and the Cardinals under him were big boppers with a great approach at the plate. Gotta say it looks like a match and can Wright be far away if that is possible? What could he do with Cruz? Lotta of establishe fron office talent coming our way and perhaps Tony LaRussa might be on the way. tonys hometown is in Alamo California which I believe is in San Fran territory but it is the right state. Where does Bobby Cox live? Having Tony around might help mentor DBB. The reason I wonder about Wright is that he is depending on his next few years HOF possible. If our lineup gels and with him in it and McGwire if successful as the hitting coach the cement might form under Wrights feet for the HOF. Also a lineup Grieneke might like to pitch for.

    guess this goes here

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Dodgers reliever Javy Guerra had right shoulder surgery on Friday.
The team said the arthroscopic procedure on his pitching shoulder cleaned up bursitis and a joint at the top of the shoulder. Guerra will start throwing in six weeks and is expected to be ready by spring training.
Guerra had right knee surgery on June 5 to repair torn cartilage after being hit in the face by a line drive. He also was sidelined with a strained oblique muscle for part of the season.
The right-hander was 2-3 with a 2.60 ERA in 45 games this season, finishing with eight saves in 13 chances. As a rookie in 2011, Guerra had a 2.31 ERA and 21 saves.

    told ya...

By Zach Links [November 2 at 11:11pm CST]

The Angels have declined their option on Dan Haren's contract for 2013, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com (via Twitter). The hurler will now enter the open market with a $3.5MM buyout rather than a $15.5MM salary with the Angels next season.

Earlier this evening it seemed as though the Angels were on the cusp of trading Haren to the Cubs for reliever Carlos Marmol. Marmol was apparently willing to waive his no trade clause to go to the Halos but the Cubs ultimately pulled the deal off the table. The Red Sox were one club known to be keen on Haren and the Halos worked to strike a different deal for Haren as the deadline neared, but they were unable to find anything to their liking.

Haren, 32, posted a 4.33 ERA with 7.2 K/9 and 1.9 BB/9 in 176 2/3 innings across 30 games for the Angels in 2012. The right-hander emailed reporters on Thursday and said that he had a feeling that he would be traded before the deadline.

    anyone have espn insider?

By Mike Axisa [November 3 at 8:40am CST]

Keith Law's Top 50 Free Agents list is up at ESPN (Insider required), and it's always a must read from start to finish. Zack Greinke tops the list and Law says he'd be "very comfortable" giving him a five-year contract. Here are a few other noteworthy items...
    • Law would be "loath to go beyond three years" for Josh Hamilton because of his lack of durability. He notes that the outfielder's "approach has started to deteriorate the past two years."
    • Hiroki Kuroda ranks as the second best free agent starter while Dan Haren, who had his option declined last night, is fourth among rotation candidates.
    • Mike Napoli is more of a first baseman or DH who "probably couldn't catch full-time even if a team wanted him to."
    • Korean left-hander Hyun-jin Ryu, who was posted yesterday, is more of a reliever than starter in Law's eyes. He ranked 37th.
