I wouldn't be surprised if stuff like that happens all the time. Hopefully this is the case.

Partially-related... what happened to all the Kyle Schwarber/Babe Ruth comparisons?

Yeah, I think that might be the case. Id give up Alvarez/Calhoun all day long. Might even throw in Stewart.
Not to be underestimated. Darvish/Maeda/Ryu (yes I know he is Korean) might be powerful in attracting Otani.

I just saw that Darvish has a partial no-trade clause. Does anyone know anything about that?

And because they have the means to re-sign him.
They could just go into the off-season and choose between Arrieta and Darvish, having laid groundwork with the latter as well

We're not on it, but the Cubs and Rockies are. I can't remember the rest or where I saw it. I would not think that it is really going to affect anything.

rangers are definitely going to ask for verdugo and/or bueller (at least at the beginning)
but being a rental we'll probably counter with significantly less
hopefully we can meet somewhere in between

    another question...
would the front office, who just spent a ton to re-sign hill/turner/kenley be willing to fork over another huge amount to re-sign darvish?
maybe they're just looking at it as a one and done scenario, in which case they'd be less willing to part with top prospects

    side note:
have to wonder if all the "verdugo/bueller are mlb ready" and "verdugo/bueller are untradeable" comments were sincere or just negotiation ploys to increase their value
personally, i believe a little of both

If it meant going into next season with a rotation of Kershaw/Darvish/Wood/Otani/Hill.........they better do it.

This FO hasn't had much success with free agents, but they've made some real good trades. Hoping they can pull a rabbit out of their hat here and land Darvish.

Can I just say the way other teams try to rape us during the trade deadline and then end up getting half of what we offered to other teams is starting to piss me off.

The White Sox at this point have...what 20 or so players in the top 100 prospects...best in the league. Make them bend over for a change.

This is going to be an annoying 10 days.
I don't think any player we are targeting will be dealt before the 31st.

I'm seeing a lot of "Cubs pursuing Darvish" news out there, including on mlb.com. It's almost suspicious, as if someone is leaking this story on purpose.

Wood and Hill SHOULD be enough after Clayton...but I don't know if I can handle more helpless game 3s or short-rest starts by Clayton.

Honestly, if we do nothing we are still the team to beat. This perception that adding one guy all of a sudden changes your outlook drastically (like people who think AZ is winning the NLWest now that they have Martinez) is wrong. If we had to rely on McCarthy or Maeda as a game 4 starter, well things could be worse. Most teams would take that.

Still, landing a starter that pushes Hill to our #4 and gives us one more guy in case of an injury... that feels big.

The Tigers are reportedly willing to pay the rest of Justin Verlander’s remaining 2017 salary in order to facilitate a deal, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports. This works out to roughly $10.89MM.

There hasn’t been much progress in talks between the Rangers and Cubs, Morosi tweets. While the Cubs continue to have interest in Darvish, they’d still prefer to add a starter who is controlled beyond just this season.

I agree, however getting a SP or RP would add in our depth and talent, but IMO more importantly psychologically make the rest of MLB collectively say "OH SHIT!!!". For me, I would like to see some of our prospect depth be dealt for Darvish. A playoff rotation of Kershaw/Darvish/Wood/Hill is pretty intimidating. Not to mention the possible added benefit of Otani next year.
