    lol from the paper...

So the Dodgers are soliciting sponsorships for the naming rights to the field at Dodger Stadium. If Spectrum puts in the winning bid, does that mean the fans attending the game won’t be able to see it?

yanks said to like darvish, so presumably they'll investigate that situation. texas hasn't committed to selling yet, but trending that way.

And NYY doesn't have a proven #1 caliber guy right now, so they have to value Darvish a good deal

It's not just about the $56MM over the next 2 years. It's also about getting under the luxury tax threshold in 2018. If Verlander's salary makes us unable to get under that threshold, then it could potentially cost us another $50MM in extra luxury from 2019-2022. All you need is one year under the threshold then your tax resets, giving you a break for several years after that. So that means Verlander could essentially cost us $100MM+ OR (more likely) we will have more incentive to get under the tax threshold in 2019. We can sign Kershaw and get under the threshold in 2019, but it's doubtful we could sign another contract of that size.

Harper was just an example, but the 2018-19 class is stacked with talent.
If we can't get under the luxury tax threshold in 2018 then we will likely price ourselves out of the 2018-19 class.
If we can get under the threshold in 2018 then we walk into the 2018-19 offseason with fuck you money.

Nolan "Super Gnat" Smith standing next to the Big Cat, Ernie Ladd.

edit.........he was Noland. Don't want to let facts clutter a quality post.

Basically, you don't jeopardise the future for an average upgrade like Verlander. People just wanting a trade for the sake of a trade. Have some foresight. Ace or closer. We need an expensive mid rotation starter about as much as we need Trayce Thompson getting at bats.

Righty Jumbo Diaz is a free agent after rejecting an outright assignment from the Rays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports on Twitter.

Buster Olney saying we're looking at Addison Reed. Reed and Blevins from the Mets would be a fantastic improvement in the bullpen

I'd be very ok with this, but I still think they would/should go after a Britton or Wilson for the 8th and then they could use Blevins as a roaver for whenever they need him as a straight LOOGY.

Not enthused about Reed and/or Blevins.
Just not enough in their repertoire to make me feel confident that they'll truly be difference makers in the postseason.
