Wow! Rockies have lost seven straight, couldn't hold-on to an early lead today, and are now two innings away from getting swept by the lowly Gnats. Show of hands -- who was saying this was their year?

Didn't realize that Quintana had turned things around lately, but apparently the Sox still want an insane Sale like package for him. I honestly have no problems with a lefty heavy rotation as long as those lefties are all fucking good. Teams sometimes have to jumble their lineups against lefties(especially good ones) and fucking up a teams chemistry in the post season is not always a bad thing.

I'd be willing to do a Verlander deal, but that is more of a we will scratch your back if you scratch ours in my eyes and I am sure the Tigers and our FO don't see it like that. Verlander fucks up long term salary obligations and I'd venture a guess that the team would have to pair down his salary with a move of Puig, Ryu, Kazmir, McCarthy, Hill or AGon back. A couple of those guys aren't likely going anywhere and the offset of Puig is that he likely has the most value, but he is a FA after next season so we aren't talking a great potential partner either. Adding JD to the situation probably doesn't help as the Tigers I am sure are more interested in getting top prospects back over eating salary in a Verlander deal. Basically, good luck to these guys on making something work out.

I did, not afraid to admit it but I have a method to my madness. Can't reveal for superstition reasons though.

DOH, I didn't even think about that. Cole is the one that intrigues me. But I would not give up any of our top talent. I would offer Joc/Stewart(#7)/Esteves(#10)
I would absolutely offer up one of our top pitchers to get Archer. His era is a bit high, but his FIP is sub 3, so I think he is a bit unlucky this year.

The warning signs were creeping up these past couple of weeks and I brought it up to some of my friends, but was shot down for it. Adjustments were coming to the rookie pitching and the bullpen was way overworked early. The Giants still have a shitty bullpen, but an 8 game losing streak could fuck this team up in more ways than the loss column. This streak could have been even worse, they had to scrap together some come back wins before this thing started.

I don't know about history but I don't recall a WS winner having an all lefty starting staff. Just to get balance you'd almost have to force a right in there somewhere. I know it's a long shot but Kazmir is another lefty who just started rehab. The other long shot is Walker Buehler and of course a trade based on what I have been seeing on various sports outlets about the FO not giving up to get.

I'd like to know if there have ever been all lefty rotations, period, and if so, how many? It is the same thing as having an all righty rotation, if they are all above average, it is all that matters. I mean let's say we get a returned to form Quintana, Hill turns into 2016 Hill and Wood continues this pace. Would you really be upset about those 4 guys being the 4 pitchers a team would have to beat to get through us in a playoff series?

Yeah if a team rakes lefties but I don't have statistics on what potential opponents have a majority of their players doing well. It's an interesting question.

LAD's reportedly not even looking for a bat right now, so that'd probably clue us in on Verdugo's availability..maybe they feel they're stocked and have the bats to call on in-house + the everyday lineup isn't bad either with CB in the fourth rivaling Judge.
Archer's probably a guy the FO likes, but can they sit down with Tampa and figure out something that doesn't involve Verdugo?
    Maybe, maybe not.
Calhoun would be a fit there in the AL with the DH, and maybe LAD would be willing to combine Calhoun with one of Buehler/White/Imani/May from the high upside batch..they'd probably have to if they're putting their foot down on Verdugo and Alvarez.
So maybe Calhoun + Mitch White + K. Ruiz would get it over the top..maybe even have to add one more to that..throw E.Rios in there since he'd have a better shot in the AL as well.
Although, they'd probably want DJ Peters over Rios.
The Ruiz inclusion would sting normally, but Smith has some useful skills and Barnes is obviously blossoming..would just have to attack catcher in the draft again.
Anyway, it more than likely has to be good looking deal for them to part with that valuable contract of Archer's

I know everyone likes Verdugo, but he may have more value in trade. If he would be the center piece of a trade for Archer, I do it. Our OF is pretty loaded - Puig/Pederson/Thompson/Toles/Ebiner/Diaz(#5)/Heredia(#11). Not to mention any future FA signings.......Otani/Harper.

I would even offer Joc/Verdugo/Beuhler for Archer. Archer behind Kershaw would be a great pair. On the other end Verdugo/Joc/Souza would be a nasty OF for the Rays. Our OF would be a bit thin but I think it would be ok with Puig in RF, Thompson in CF and Bellinger in LF with Taylor spelling everyone and Utley/SVS at 1b.

Makes me wonder if they ever recovered from blowing Sunday's game like they did.

Tough to come back from losses like that.

You're holding on tight AF to the 8-hole hitter in red.
Verdugo is a prototypical top of the batting order guy in today's game, should be a great fit in front of Seager and Bellinger for years to come..you should not be willing to send him out.
Then again, you wanted to trade Bellinger for Chris Sale

As much as I like the fact we have a lot of players on this roster who can go yard, I really look forward to having that high contact, line drive, hit for average, take the walk, don't swing for the fences guy at the top of the order. Seems like that's one thing this lineup could really use.

I'm afraid that is the past especially now with the focus on statcast it's all about launch angle, exit velocity and HR distance. The emphasis on making this game we all love "exciting" and entertaining to the casual fan in order further the game is making the HR popular again. Much like the steroid era as we know it.

Toles would have been that guy on the team right now, maybe Verdugo will be that guy.

Toles is an ISO/SLG/hard contact guy that doesn't walk a ton.
Verdugo is much closer to the guy lastatman's describing

Is it a coincidence that Verdugo, in a year where he could conceivably make the jump to MLB, has started more games in RF than he has in CF?
    I think not
Watch for the not so subtle signals

Coincidental my man. Just in line with the FO love of versatile players. Calhoun has been in LF alot to get his resume more complete, plus you have SVS still down there and he's not a RF'er. Have to have Dickson's stick in the line-up as well and he's a LF'er. If there was a DH maybe you could read more into this but I don't think so.

    Why is this so hard.

    CF: Verdugo/Puig
    SS: Seager/Kike
    3B: Turner/Forsythe
    1B: Bellinger/Adrian
    2B: Taylor/Forsythe
    C: Grandal/Barnes
    RF: Joc/Puig
    LF: Calhoun/Puig

That leaves no room for Thompson, Toles, Utley, Ethier.
