The other day I had the radio feed going with Chris Berman doing play-by-play and Sutcliffe adding color. "Boomer" is absolutrly horrible - how he gets these gigs is beyond me. His words slur together like a drunkard and on one play his call was, "Oooooooooh, great play by Camargo." Nothing more. I'm still waiting to find out exactly what Camargo did. Hopefully I won't have to endure him again in this next series. Sutcliffe, on the other hand, I've always found to be knowledgeable, personable, and articulate. Just wish they would pair him with someone else.
could it be its because you think that sly smirk and a wink is for you every time the guy finishes asking a question and sticks the mike in the other dudes face? i mean it IS intoxicating
I don't hate Buck on a personal level like many do. He's actually a humble dude. But he's not good enough for me to understand how he's ascended to such heights in his profession. Calling the Superbowl, World Series, PGA Championships...if Fox had the NBA he'd be calling the finals. He's just not that good. I'm not advocating for a screamer, but he's a robot. Maybe it says more about modern sportscasting in general. idk. Fox is strange to me in that they have 1 "voice" for their brand. Seems pretty antiquated. They've also been using the "NFL on FOX" theme across all sports. Baseball has no identity anymore. They call it brand consistency, I call it a lack of identity. Remember this? The MLB had a unique musical score, quirks, etc. Now it's just bland. Buck doesn't help. But they'll keep him because casual viewers don't care, it probably saves them money, and he's "good enough".
It's that hair, bro...awesome ! Smoltz is irrelevant to me, one way or the other, as are most announcers. I actually like to hear an old ballplayer mention the old ways. Just bcause it's newer, certainly doesn't mean it's better. Smoltz doesn't say it like Vin did, for sure, but he has a right to express his disdain for facets of the game he played for years that he thinks suck. None of us were down on the field. There sure is a shitload of hatred here for pretty much everybody though, including our own. Lots of worry about seat colors, the crowd arriving late, Charlie Steiner, Orel, leaving early, attendance, PA systems, music choices, game times, etc. Really, does this all matter? Maybe I'm too far away from it geographically, or generationally, or whatever...but waiting for this team to finally get there, imo, is the focus. Although the parking seems outrageously overpriced, and a hot dog, etc. (and Yankee Stadium and Citi Field are no bargains, either, I assure you), you can still go and see the team. The Dodgers. For someone who can't, kinda difficult to fathom why all this other shit even matters.
related: Chris Russo is a moron Judge is only 8 months younger. Trout is already a lock for the HOF. Judge has had 1 amazing year and 1 good year. I'll take the consistent 10 win player.
dodged 2 bullets no angel hernandez and joe west working the alcs NLCS: Scott Barry will be behind the plate for Friday night's NL opener, Alan Porter will be at first, Gerry Davis (Crew Chief) at second, Hunter Wendelstedt at third, Jim Wolf in left and Brian Gorman in right. ALCS: James Hoye will call balls and strikes for Saturday night's AL opener, Vic Carapazza will be at first, Joe West (Crew Chief) at second, Mark Carlson at third, Chris Guccione in left and Mark Wegner in right.
Brewers are going: Gio Gonzalez game 1 Wade Miley game 2 Chacin game 3 Our righties NEED to be fuckin patient. Those pitchers aren’t very good
I think if Kersh doesn't choke, and Puig plays well, LAD may cruise Those two things don't happen and I think it's a tight 6 or 7 game series That said..I'm expecting a 6 game series Lol
i guess i must be lucky because when its october especially i barely listen to what's being said let alone the rhythm its spoken in every once in a while something really stupid makes its way past my focus on the game and i mute the tv if its too much then again i'm usually watching the game w mom and talking to her my guess is if i was watching it alone i'd notice more most years i do watch alone but i'm hoping we can get one for mom at 96 just lost tex winter at that age RIP
totally agree been saying all along (as have you)... need to beat up their starters and overwork their pen imo we're clearly the better team but the brewers have been on quite a run a game 1 victory could put a dent in their entitled invulnerability
Stripling: “I was tipping pitches down the stretch, big time. Honeycutt, Pratt [video guy], Chase and Dozier all found it. They picked up on different things. Chase and Dozier noticed my feet, Pratt my glove.” Yu Darvish has a beer, but is afraid to ask anyone to hold it.
I love how all the talking heads are saying the Brewers lefties will "neutralize Max Muncy". Lol. Imo, Munxy should start against lefties. Save Freese for an opportune AB late in the game.
I think that’s a fair point. I’ve heard him do multiple interviews where he comes across as super down to earth and humble and actually has a good sense of humor and can make fun of himself. Also listened to a podcast that did an oral history of the Joe Buck Live episode that Artie Lange ruined, that was awesome. So yeah, hard for me to dislike him after that especially when he calls out the obnoxious “This guy hates my favorite team” fan critique which is tired and lazy. Buster Olney has a picture that he tweets whenever people say he hates their team that’s actually a picture of 30 different tweets by a random fan of all 30 teams claiming that he hates their team. Puts it in hilarious perspective
