Roberts impressed by Gonsolin by Matt Borelli | Dodger Blue — 2 hours ago While Spring Training is a time for players to carry forward with preparations for the regular season, the Los Angeles Dodgers and other clubs also use the time in camp to evaluate prospects. On the pitching side, that’s amounted to several young arms making appearances in Cactus League games. Among those to get work in was right-hander Tony Gonsolin, who quietly has risen through the organization’s ranking of prospects. “Minor League Pitcher of the Year, he has a four-pitch mix, he can throw his secondaries for strikes when he needs to, he’s a tough competitor, he’s very intelligent, and the stuff is real,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts answered when asked for his evaluation of Gonsolin. “For me to be able to put eyes on him, our coaching staff, was good. The way he carries himself in the clubhouse is very mature.” Gonsolin is one of the more intriguing arms in Dodgers camp after enjoying a breakout campaign last season. Splitting time with High-A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Tulsa, he posted a 2.60 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 155 strikeouts against 42 walks across 128 innings pitched (26 starts). Gonsolin earned organizational Minor League Pitcher of the Year honors as a result of his success and had the opportunity to visit Dodger Stadium for the first time last September, to which he described as an incredible experience. While Gonsolin will likely begin the 2019 season in the Minors, a promotion later in the year isn’t out of the realm if he’s able to build off his success and continue making good impressions on his teammates and coaching staff.
my bad 1 run Bill Plunkett✓@billplunkettocr #Dodgers Rich Hill pitched into 5th inning vs Giants minor league team — 1 run 2 hits 2 walks 6 Ks 2 audible F-bombs. 2:13 PM - 11 Mar 2019
Dude, come on. Kershaw is only play at minimum one game in the post. We're not getting swept. We make it to five against the nats until Kersh gives it up in the fourth but doesn't get pulled till the sixth.
Somehow, we get Madson back, and despite Gonsolin being fucking nails, we go with him and lose after a magical comeback started by Corey Seager
No word as of yet as they are going to play it by ear. They were going to go for 180-190 in 2017 before he got hurt, but two years of not a whole hell of a lot means that they are back close to square one. Luckily the Dodgers can afford to play it a bit more cautiously than others could. If I were to guess, I'd say 80-100 innings... maybe 120. It is going to be weird to watch how they handle him as he could be a vital piece to a this teams chances of winning it all. In terms of the other young pitchers, Buehler is the only one that likely does not have an innings limit. Guys like May(130 IP each of last 2 years) and Gonsolin (128 IP) probably cap out at 180 at the absolute most.
Good: Bellinger, Martin and Hernandez all dropped a couple bombs tonight. Bad: Dodgers gave up 10 runs, walked 10 and threw 8 wild pitches Good: Most of all those runs, walks and WP’s were by guys that won’t come close to touching the MLB roster. Bad: The Yordy Cabrera bubble has popped since I mentioned him the other day... dude has really struggled to find the zone the last couple of outings and tonight was a joke. Good: Dodgers pitchers and supposed contributors down the line have been pretty solid thus far in camp. The guys that have been beaten up the most have been guys you don’t expect to see this season. Random: Brad Miller is the universal pick for scrap heap guy that Dodgers pick up for nothing and he turns into a star. We’ll see how this one shakes out.
I say Gonsolin is the the sleeper cell. I just think something up with Buehler dead arm issues and everyone know about the Kersh
All I can say it will be an intriguing season to watch in a kind of weird way this will be a make it or break it season
I have already lost interest as a paying Dodger fan just going to cheer watch and play fantasy baseball and enjoy the game as a whole before the strike and understand that the game is what it is. Just like last night I watched the Padres play the Angels due to some late fantasy sleeper picks I am interested SP Paddack and C Mejia and Tatis JR are the real deal bullpen looks good. They have a strong young core with Machado and if the young pitching holds up we Dodger fans Will not be walking all over our division. Outside our division a lot teams improved. Except the Pirates Marlins Giants and Arizona are all teams that did nothing. So it will be a dog fight to the end but if we go through that slow start we won’t recover this time around.
Why worry? Didn't we crush the competition last season in the NLW by how how may games n front? No problemo. We're a lock.
Watching this game on now, it appears that no team on the third planet from the sun is capable of beating the Red Sox.
Sounds like Erlin keeps leaving his offspeed pitches over the plate and the Dodgers are making him pay. 8-0 already in the 3rd. Early game ended in a tie. Was really impressed by Jeter Downs who got the start. Made a couple of nice plays in the field and that bat will play. Will smith also got a couple of knocks... FINALLY.
