Yep, that's one of the big reasons Friedman and Co. really liked him, way better than AJ in that department.

man, those comparisons are truly startling
combine that with aj's meager offense and its a no brainer

Wanna talk about interesting? How's this?

    • Displaced Dodgers GM Ned Colletti is enjoying his “respite” from the decisionmaking seat, as Bill Dwyre of the Los Angeles Times writes in a fascinating look at the former top baseball man in Los Angeles. Now working as a senior advisor to club president Stan Kasten — who actually extended his contract through 2016 — Colletti says that he is enjoying a more grass-roots role than he could ever have hoped to play in the GM position. At the same time, he indicated that he does not intend to slowly ease out of the game. “The song isn’t over,” says Colletti. “It is just a pause.”

Colletti is gonna be talking on SportsNetLA. I disagree with his GM activities but I actually enjoy hearing him talk baseball, if that makes sense. Maybe it's mean but just seemed as a GM he wasn't up to par with everyone else but I liked hearing him talk because he seemed as honest as you could be in a position like that and I think a GM/Scout point of view on the broadcast will be great instead of just the ex ballplayers and pure analysts they have.

I had this same thought the other day. I noticed he'd been on SportsNetLA more often, and it's a refreshing change to get some insight from a GM's perspective.

I want the Cards to have an injury plagued, losing season. I really and sincerely wish them the worst of luck. I really hate those fuckers more than any other team right now.

i can already see the espn/mlb network asshats foaming at the mouth, praising lee for his grittiness
proclaiming his unselfishness for trying to fight through injury, to be there for his team
    yeah, not so much
you see, lee is guaranteed $25MM this year whether he pitches or not
but if he were to somehow find a way to pitch 200 innings this season...
the phils would be on the hook for an additional $12.5MM
and surgery would [obviously] eliminate the possibility of that happening
so of course he's doing whatever he can to try and get whatever he can
    lee's not stupid
having tommy john surgery at age 36 would likely put an end to his career
and, no matter how much you make, an additional $12.5MM is an additional $12.5MM
    but please espn/mlb network/et al...
i'm asking you nicely, in advance...
please don't try to see us on the competitive nature of an athlete
and/or a gamer veteran trying to grit his way through it for his team
this is nothing more than a guy trying to get as much as he can before he hangs 'em up
    and who can blame him?

Cliff Lee Will Attempt To Pitch With Torn Flexor Tendon
By Jeff Todd [March 10, 2015 at 12:25pm CDT]

After a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, Cliff Lee will attempt to pitch through a torn flexor tendon for the Phillies, GM Ruben Amaro Jr. told reporters including Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News (links to Twitter). A surgical option (not Tommy John) would be the next step if Lee experiences discomfort.

Amaro says that the team is “not terribly optimistic” that such a surgical result can be avoided. If he goes under the knife, Lee would be expected to miss six to eight months. Obviously that would mean a lost season, which would presumably also bring an end to his contract with the Phillies. Lee is under control for 2016 through a vesting/club option, but it would not be triggered if he misses the year and the club would be unlikely to pick it up at $27.5MM (against a $12.5MM buyout).

At this point, it is difficult to foresee a way for the Phillies to recover any value for the veteran lefty. A deal this spring is all but unimaginable, of course. And looking ahead to the trade deadline or beyond, the risk may be too great to support a market. Even if Lee can somehow perform at his historical standards and a 200-inning pace — the best case scenario — the vesting clause (it hits at 200 innings pitched) would loom as a potentially massive obligation. Regardless of trades scenarios, it is unfortunate to see as great a player as Lee struggle to stay on the field at this stage of his career.

Amaro would still ask for three top prospects if someone tried to trade for Lee.
