yeah, but they did just give more to a MLB/unproven Olivera ( who they probably won't use this year) and of course that seemed like a drop in the bucket.

if you add the money that they sent with Kemp to get to him SD..to the money they're willing to send with Ethier to get him traded..BOOM..ya got Santana to Minnesota. Lol

St. Louis is a much smaller market and even they open the pocket book for a big free agent every now and then. the Twins are full of shit.

    Dodgers To Sign Scott Baker
By Jeff Todd [April 3, 2015 at 8:03pm CDT]
The Dodgers have agreed to sign righty Scott Baker, pending a physical, Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN reports (Twitter links). Presumably it is a minor league pact, unless the club intends to place Baker on its Opening Day roster.

I am just thinking out loud here. But why would a 32 year old pitcher like him who has never used PED's before in his career and has already landed the biggest contract he will ever get intentionally put PED's into his system? It is not like he is someone who is a borderline HOF and that little enhancement here and it would him over the top. A quick search of what he tested positive, it can be taken orally as well as the needle in his ass. I kind of believe him.

Just because you've never been caught doesn't mean you've never used. He most likely cycled on, or back on, the stuff to extend his career while in Atlanta. I have to say, the stuff works which is why these people get their contracts and are still willing to use.

Remember, Clemens was at the end of his career until roids extended his career for another decade.

Preller is at it again. BJ Upton and Craig Kimbrel coming to Padres with Quinton, Maybin and others going to the Braves.

pads unloaded the crap they didn't need and got the best closer in the game, and crap they also didn't need. Gave up Wisler, pick #41, and I think an OF because Maybin and Quentin aren't anything.

and, conversely, the same question must again be asked... wtf is john hart doing?:retard:
i understand jumping at an opportunity to dump bj's bad contract... but giving up kimbrel to accomplish it is a steep price

Wow. Why can't we trade garbage for the best closer in baseball?

    official...

Braves trade Craig Kimbrel, Melvin Upton Jr. to Padres
    ESPN.com news services — 17 minutes ago

The Atlanta Braves have traded closer Craig Kimbrel and outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. to the San Diego Padres.

Carlos Quentin and Cameron Maybin to Atlanta along with prospects Matt Wisler and Jordan Paroubeck, and the 41st pick overall in the upcoming draft.

Kimbrel led the National League in saves last year with 47 and has saved no fewer than 42 games over the past four seasons with the Braves.

The move will reunite Upton with his brother Justin, whom the Padres also acquired from the Braves in a trade this offseason.

Melvin, an 11-year veteran who had gone by B.J. Upton before this season, was sidelined during spring training due to inflammation in his foot, but had been a bust since signing the largest free-agent contract in Braves history.

Entering the third year of a five-year, $75 million deal, Upton had compiled a .198 average in his two seasons in Atlanta and hit a total of 21 homers in that span.

San Diego has completely revamped its outfield this offseason, adding Wil Myers from the Rays, Matt Kemp from the Dodgers and both Uptons from the Braves.

The Braves and Padres open their seasons Monday; Atlanta plays at Miami, while San Diego starts its season at Los Angeles against the Dodgers.

Braves are going to suck pond water this year so the 'best closer in baseball' wouldn't get much work.

that question definitely popped in my head. Basically the only value is Wisler for them for the best closer in the game.

cause we already have an elite "closer"? LOL Melvin Upton's contract.

Padres might have slightly increased their wildcard chance?

i do blame them. in a few years they're gonna end up going to Bryant and trying to get him to sign a big contract that gives them more than just another year of control anyway.
