Good to see Dee Gordon having fun. There are some ex Dodgers I dislike, but I'll always cheer for Dee.

The Dodgers are really re-writing the rules of engagement. As the MLB Trade Rumors article said, this is the first time ever in MLB histroy that a team has essentially bought a draft pick. With the FO and the GG backing them, we may be doing this a ll more in the near future and don't be surprised if we aren't done quite yet. The nerds have found a loophole and they are and will be exposing it.

However, this topic (issue to the rest of the league), I can almost guarantee, will be brought up in the off-season and might be addressed. In the meantime, this years draft combined with the talent foreign pool are going to make the franchise REALLYYYYYYYYYYYY strong for years and years to come.

draft picks are super important to this Kasten-led regime..it started before the nerds were even in place, although they did just execute this shrewd move. when a QO is attached to a free agent/potential target you may as well forget it..Dodgers will not touch him. guys with QO's aren't even worth discussing.

Read the article on DodgersDigest about how Hatcher had a lot more success last year when he's throwing his sinker. So far this year (obviously early), he's been throwing mostly 4 seamers, so we'll see if he adjusts his pitches.

LOS ANGELES -- The Wally Pipp jokes aren't as funny after a while.

A few of the Los Angeles Dodgers dropped that old baseball gag on Juan Uribe -- you know, the one about the guy who lost his job to Lou Gehrig and forever after became a punch line -- when the popular veteran missed Sunday's game in Arizona with a tight left hamstring and saw his replacement,Alex Guerrero, drive in four runs.

Well, Monday it got a little more serious. Guerrero -- perhaps the most mysterious player on the Dodgers' 25-man roster -- showed the Dodgers he can do something else they didn't know he could do: get a bucket of sugary red liquid dumped on his head. Guerrero came up with a clutch, two-out single to drive in Andre Ethier with the winning run in the Dodgers' comeback 6-5 win over the Seattle Mariners in 10 innings andYasiel Puig gave him the requisite dowsing as he did his postgame interview.

The Dodgers love Uribe's leadership. They rely on his stabilizing defense for the left side of their infield. They felt like his bat down low in the lineup was a key to their offensive continuity last season.

Justin Turner batted .340 last year and was second to Yasiel Puig in wins above replacement among Dodgers position players and now Guerrero is starting to put some heat on Uribe, too.

"We've got some good stuff going on," Mattingly said. "We talk about it with [Turner]. I call him Ginobili because he could start a lot of places, but he's almost better for us off the bench. I look at it the same with Alex. We're going to need our full roster and, hopefully, our guys are buying in. We feel like that's the way to go for now."

Hard to miss that, "for now," at the end.

The Dodgers gave Alex Guerrero $28 million over four years fresh out of Cuba two winters ago without knowing much about him and, after a season in their organization, they really didn't gather all that much information. He was disappointing from the start at second base. He hit well in Triple-A, batting .329, but because of a vicious dugout fight with teammateMiguel Olivo that cost him part of his ear, he was limited to fewer than 250 at-bats.

All the Dodgers really knew this spring was that there was nowhere to put him. If he didn't make their 25-man roster, a contract clause would have allowed him to become a free agent and the Dodgers would have been out $14 million with nothing to show for it. That wasn't going to happen, not before they knew what kind of player they had on their hands.

Now, it's looking like, at a minimum, he could be a useful bench piece and, his upside could be as an everyday player. As usual, it's a question of when.

"I never had a doubt I could play in the big leagues," Guerrero said in Spanish. "But it's a process and I was playing in a new country and getting moved between positions, so it took a little while, but I always felt I could do this."

Guerrero isn't the only young player propping up what has otherwise been a mediocre week for the Dodgers. RelieversPedro Baez and Yimi Garcia combined for 1 2/3 strong innings of relief after Brandon McCarthy's wild ride of an outing -- 10 strikeouts and four home runs -- and those two seem to be sliding into crucial roles in a highly-fluid bullpen arrangement.

The Dodgers made a lot of changes this winter, but so far it's some of the overlooked players who were here all along who are providing some of the bright spots.

    i told ya.." Wally Pipp'ed! " Lol

Puig says he will be limiting Bat Flips
by Vincent Samperio | Dodgers Nation — 20 minutes ago

When one thinks of Yasiel Puig, one thinks of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a rocket arm and bat flips.

Well, it appears that one of those could be eliminated from that association. Puig has become known for flipping the bat at the end of his swings, whether it’s a home run or just a ground ball. While he’s made it known that he does it out of excitement, not disrespect, many people have categorized it as disrespect to the game of baseball.

Those critiques have seemed to reach the Cuban outfielder and will lead to a change, according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times:

Though acknowledging that some fans are entertained by his theatrics, Puig said in Spanish, “I want to show American baseball that I’m not disrespecting the game.”

Puig hit a home run on Monday at Dodger Stadium and his signature move was reduced to nothing more than a drop of the bat. It was his second home run in as many games, and was part of a three-hit night in the Dodgers extra-innings victory.

While he plans to limit the bat flips, he made it clear that he is not eliminating them completely:

“If it’s a big home run or if I’m frustrated because I couldn’t connect in my previous at-bats or if I drive in important runs for my team, I might do it,” he said. “You never know. I can’t say I won’t do it.”

Even with a boon in players from other countries, where bat flips are common, baseball “tradionalists” still consider them as a detriment to the game rather than a form of expression. These players are then considered as “disrespectful” and often change their style.

While he’s making an effort to change, it will be hard to not expect more bat flips from Puig.

Pederson feeling more confident at the plate
by Vincent Samperio | Dodgers Nation — 94 minutes ago

One of the players under a big spotlight this season for the Los Angeles Dodgers is rookie center fielder Joc Pederson.

Many consider Pederson a factor in the Dodgers trading away former All-Star Matt Kemp this winter. Because of this, the 22-year-old is under a bit more pressure to perform. He handled the spring quite well, hitting .338 with six home runs and 13 RBIs to earn the starting spot in center. Through the first five games this season, Pederson had just three hits and eight strikeouts, but he has four hits in the past two games.

When asked if his confidence is higher, Pederson said yes and elaborated via Dodgers Nation reporter Matt Moreno:

Definitely. You start the year hot, or cold, and you know because it’s such a short sample size. Once you get the games coming you really start to get a feel for it. It’s just about putting together quality at-bats. It’s huge for the confidence and helped the team a lot.”

Pederson laced a two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning on Monday against the Seattle Mariners to cut the Dodgers deficit to 4-3. This came a day after he picked up three hits, including his first career Major League home run. The outfielder has already shown what he can do on defense, tracking down fly balls with ease and even making some highlight-reel catches.

While he will likely continue struggling at times, Pederson has shown that he belong in the big leagues and could potentially become a candidate for Rookie of the Year. He will have to learn to deal wit the peaks and valleys that occur in the Majors, but he has a strong veteran presence around him in the clubhouse to aid with that.

It’s exciting to see a homegrown talent begin to develop for the Dodgers and from the looks of the farm system, he could be the first of a few coming up.

More than that, it's sad. O'Malley sold the team and the organization hasn't been the same since. The Guggenheim group (sp?) so far has been good for the club (overall), but the changes and upgrades initiated by them haven't come without a cost (I'm sure we're all aware of that ~ pick your favorite and/or least favorite cost/change). I do think we'll see a Series soon. Real question is when and how long will it really take. Ugh!
