Dodgers signed 17 year old RHP Osvani Gutierrez out of Cuba for $600K. Smallish at 6'1" with some effort in his delivery, still young so he could certainly grow. Has reached a FB velocity up to 93, has good feel for his CB and Change, plus he can fill up the strike zone. Advanced for his age, but sounds like his size and the effort in his delivery kept him off the Top Int'l prospect lists. Dodgers still have some of the most money of the teams left, though aren't expected to do well in the Mesa's sweepstakes.

Seager relieved surgeries will make him pain-free going forward
by Matt Borelli | Dodger Blue — 58 minutes ago

The 2018 season was a lost cause for Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager, who appeared in all of 26 games before opting to undergo Tommy John surgery in May.

Months into that recovery process, Seager then underwent an additional operation in August to correct a left hip issue. The procedure isn’t expected to have any effect on the 24-year-old’s timeline in resuming baseball-related activities by the start of Spring Training.

Having been under the knife twice this year, Seager is ready to move on and feels a sense of relief that he will be pain-free going forward, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

“It definitely makes me happy to hear that things are going to stop bothering me,” he said. “It would make me really happy to be able to play without pain. You lose flexibility from it. It was just nagging, annoying and would take a while to get loose. It was like a deep feeling. I always felt like I was out of place, never in line. In general, if I loaded it a certain way it bothered me. I actually learned it stems from all the problems I had. It affects your arm, it affects your back and hamstrings. If you can’t move through your hips, you manipulate your arm and that causes stress. It’s kind of all related. In theory, it’s going to help everything.”

With Seager on track for a full recovery, he remains confident that he’ll be able to reprise his starting shortstop role next season. The Dodgers have maintained similar expectations as well.

That could lead to a difficult decision if the club seriously pursues the prospect of re-signing Manny Machado to what presumably would be a long-term contract this winter.

Doing so would require either Seager or Machado to change positions, though the latter will reportedly consider moving back to third base on a permanent basis in the right situation.

In regards to the above article, there are apparently growing murmurs that the Dodgers FO does have a plan to make a serious run at retaining Manny Machado. The thing is, it is not entirely set in stone whether they will or won't yet. What is going to help with the decision on how hard they try to pursue this? Word is that if Manny (does what many here expected him to do, but hasn't) were to light up the box score through the rest of the Dodgers run, the FO would make damn sure not to let him (i.e. a potential postseason/ world series hero) go. Still has a lot of work to do(almost kept the intrigue going that last AB), but this was interesting to hear the last couple of days and I have no clue what the plan for that IF would be.

So Harper is way out of the picture? I’m still on the fence for MM depending on how the rest this post season goes, but don’t mind having some power all through lineup.

My concern still is SP, with CK an unknown, and today’s uncertainty about Walker, Ryu also an uncertainty.

If we spend a lot of money, SP is where I would prefer to spend it.

If recent history has shown anything, spending big on starting pitching does not work and this FO would probably not do that beyond an extension for Kershaw and maybe a couple years on Ryu as well. The farm is loaded with starting pitching and there is still a good amount of controllable starters on this team.
There is nothing really being said about Harper yet other than Phillies and talk of returning to the Nats. I could see the Dodgers passing after the year he had and the money he could command(I could be totally wrong), but who knows if this club gets close and falls short again. I too am on the fence, but like I said, so is the FO as they want to see something to make them have to bring him back.
If starting pitching is addressed from outside the org, I see it being done via trade.

Random thought about this investigation into the Dodgers Int'l dealings. I wonder if we see a jump in trades early in the offseason of some of our marquee Int'l signings from 15'-16'. Diaz is already out, so I wonder if Alvarez/Estevez/Heredia/etc.. could be next. The Braves lost 9 prospects(I believe) after they got caught and they are also part of this investigation. With MLB not yet involved, the FO could look to move guys they could eventually lose for nothing if they really did do some shady practices to land them in the first place. This is just speculation on my part, but if bad times are coming, I really hope they get out ahead of this thing.

Not a bad point, also if they see sanctions coming it makes a lot of sense to duck under the luxury tax this year, if they restrict us IFA/draft pick wise we’ll have to spend a lot of money on MLB free agents to make up for it. So that would potentially be another reason for this year’s lack of spending.

Yeah, that could be something they are preparing for. Would also have to think what this means for the FO. Is Friedman out? Zaidi? Kasten was the dude who hired that crew and I believe he is a part owner. I think a lot is being made about this list that they made about how bad these guys were, I really hope that they snuffed out these dudes after it was made and fired them like has been mentioned by some, but not other reporters. Just very weird to me that they would make this list and then not destroy it unless it actually makes them look good.
