I completely agree but I'm not sure how exactly that will affect who they targey in the offseason.there's a lot of money to be made there, hell I was at a yankee game recently(first time at new yankee stadium) and couldn't believe how many ichiro shirts and jerseys I saw....deffinitely competed with the number of jeter's I'll say that.and to think that ichiro's been in the league for 10 years, I can only imagaine what it was like in seattle his first years.imo with the money those fans spent for the game(tix and concessions) plus the revenue from the products(shirts and jerseys) that they topped $1M of revenue just on that one game...and just by looking id say $1m is a very generous number

Dodger ownership is very different than most pro team ownership. It is corporately owned and not individually owned. The overlap between corporate behavior insurance/mutual fund sales and the are dodgers are financially interdependent. Notice with the Yankees it was the name Steinbrenner and not his shipping company getting mentioned. With us it is Guggenheim......... Which is awesome brand recognition for folks selling their products etc etc etc which can help influence who they target.

By staying low key with limited name recognition forces people to say Guggenheim.

Ok I'm pickin up what your puttin down now.that is a good point and to further that point, when steinbrenner first took over there was more ephasis on his shipping company and same could be said about baltimore's current owner(his name slipped my mind)and his construction/architectural business when he first started.that is a very good way to market your other assets and I can't think of any other owner who does that these days since illitch sold most of his stock in ford years ago.I also have to say they've done a good job staying "low key" bc I couldn't tell you who is owner,I know magic and kasten have some kind of ownership and that's only bc magic is a big name specifically in la and kasten is a well respected baseball "mind".

On a side note since we're talking business and you seem to know that aspect well, can guggenheim take an insurance policy on one of it's own players?we all know most,if not all,big money contrqcts hqve some sort of insurance policy attached to them so for instance can they own an insurance policy on greinke?would that be beneficial to them in any way than any other insurance broker?

Wow great question about the insurance, not sure if possible or in their interest.

Look at that graph for the NL West, it's sexy. (For those of you that don't know, baseball prospectus has the best playoff probabilities, way better than ESPN who basically does it based on current standings. BPro takes into account the actual talent of the team alongside the standings and what they predict the teams record will be from there on out)

On June 21st, they had us at a 7% chance of making the playoffs! Now are at 99%

Yea I never thought about that and idk maybe even mlb requires they go through a specific agency, but i'd be interested in finding out if guggs can gain or even lose money in a situation like that...

Bp is great and also takes into account difficulty of schedule remaining and things such as win/loss record in one run games and such among many other things that other projectors don't.by far the best imo

What's funny about the list is that , yeah it's bad, but it's not what the rankers thinkthey should be ranked. It's basically a formula taking into account what the voters have used as measures to vote in previous years. So it's basically showing us how idiotic these voters tend to vote

I'm interested to see how the Dodgers handle the pitching rotation the final month of the season. With Capuano being so up and down and Ryu in his first season of big league ball, I wonder if the club pursues someone that may be a little more formidable out of the 5 spot in the rotation. I was thinking that Fife could jump back in after call ups, but has really struggled in his last 3 go arounds.

man, I was thinking the same. If it's via waiver trade, we need someone before September to be eligible for playoffs but I think at this point it'd be better to put Capuano into the bullpen to make him a LOOGY who can be a long man. The difference between how righties and lefties hit him is staggering (Righties are near a .900 OPS and lefties are below .600) so I think he could succeed as a LOOGY as we put Howell/Paco against both sides of the ball.

Now, I'd hope they'd have Fife up but you're right in that he's struggled and I thought I read they are scared his shoulder is still a bit hurt. It sounds much easier said than done to say "Pick up a 5th starter on waivers for nothing" but I mean, Ned has done that a few times in the past years and I wonder if he's trying to do that this year. It could help, get some rental type piece who is at least an upgrade over Capuano... It sounds greedy at this point but hey, why not.

Didn't realize Ryu is having that great of a season, and I've had him on one of my fantasy league teams from day one. I think that Whip turns me off sometimes. He can get knocked around, but he's been a little lucky with both run-support and not letting runners score after he lets them get on (off the top of my head).

    LOS ANGELES --

Matt Kemp had a productive day testing his sprained left ankle on Friday, and the Dodgers are holding out hope the outfielder can start a rehab assignment before Minor League seasons end the first week of September.

Kemp, on the disabled list for the third time this season, tested his ankle running and making turns. He also took a few rounds of early batting practice, with hitting coach Mark McGwire feeding the pitching machine.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly watched Kemp's workout and was encouraged by what he saw.

"They said that was the best he's ran," Mattingly said. "You still see a hitch now and then on certain steps and when he's slowing down. He's getting better, but he's not there yet."

Kemp said last week he wanted to play in a few rehab games, and there's still a chance that could happen.

"I'm hoping he can get in to a game or two," Mattingly said. "If not, we'll have to work something else out and set some stuff up."
    ==========================================================================================

Imagine if Kemp came back and was good :O
    Crawford/Puig/Gonzalez/Ramirez/Kemp/Ethier/Uribe/Ellis/Ellis in an AL park

If Puig is being retarded you can even move him down and he'll ball up another spot in the lineup

If Kemp came back and was good, that'd just be ridiculous.

Oh, and you'll love this. Another Vassegh gem. They were talking about how the Dodgers reportedly had interest in Howie Kendrick and Vassegh went on to say that it would've been "a huge mistake" for the Dodgers. I initially thought he said that because Kendrick got hurt, but Vassegh's actual reasoning was because Mark Ellis is a "chemistry" guy; and used his coined phrase "you can't have an all star at every position".
