The Dodgers are the team that claimed Bryce Harper off of waivers, according to multiple reports. It is rumored that the deadline has come and gone however, so no deal was reached. My guess is that the Nats wanted something hefty, like a Ruiz, Lux, May centered deal, but no clue what it could have been.

    no i get that
but you brought up the 88 team, so hence the comparisons
the kershaw hate comes from his numerous postseason collapses
but it's not really fair considering we wouldn't have gotten that far without him
but for me, last year is still a bitter pill
whoever made the decision to start darvish in game 7 should have been fired
and since we will likely never know who that genius was... we've earned the right to hate them all...
from honeycutt, roberts, farhan, friedman, kasten, walter... all the way up

Well, that would've been interesting. Harper's probably played himself into being an option for Kasten this offseason as well

Guy has been on an absolut tear since the ASG. I would not have been shocked if the Dodgers tried to send back someone like Puig to offset the prospect cost, but maybe he did not make it through waivers. This is an interesting development though, even with the team looking like floundering shit, they're still out there trying to get some big time players and make a run at this thing. Either they are planning doing some big things this offseason, or this was done to block the many many many teams now ahead of us.

Puig and maybe Kemp as well, both having that additional year of control. Surely, Kemp made it through waivers, bad as he's been..less likely.

We already know the O's had interest in Puig a few weeks back, so maybe they claimed him? Fate must be Puig's best friend. If there's one team in MLB that'll pull the plug on a trade because of a minor injury to a guy, it's Angelos and the O's.

Maybe this is too far out ahead..next trade deadline should feature Trout, yes? If we're being reasonable, I mean. There's no chance he finishes up with the Halos. Moreno would have the urge to give him a franchise killing deal, but I get the feeling Trout would tell him not to waste his energy way ahead of time.

    • Julio Urias struck out five in his 2⅓ innings start for the Quakes on Tuesday. Urias struck out the side in the second inning and struck out four straight until giving up a solo home run in the third inning. After giving up his first walk, Urias was taken out in the third inning.

Might as well look forward to next year.

Dodgers play the Sox at Fenway (definitely going to that one) and the Yankees here in August.

So for all the fucking bullshit that went wrong this season and hand wringing over the FO’s lack of aggressiveness last offseason, man things could have been so much worse. The board was somewhat split on Darvish(as noted, he’s done for the season), but not getting much pub here is that Morrow has been out for some time and he too is possibly out for the season now. Stanton has been good, but not close to what he was a year ago and I don’t know if he would have been able to save this season with anything short of a repeat performance. The one that has backfired the worst is taking the fucking Shitter(Koehler) over Watson. Otherwise, many of the big offseason bullpen acquisitions have been major busts. Feels like this season was fucked no matter what.

    good point man
i never really had a problem not signing either although i would have gladly taken both at the time
the morrow loss was probably more noticeable and who's to say he gets hurt w us but seeing how our season has gone he probably dies lol

Yeah, I was ok with Morrow leaving after I saw what he got, but I was really irked by the Watson thing since it seemed like nobody was giving him much of a look(his contract reflects that) and Koehler was a total shot in the dark for the same price. I guess this should also be taken into account, but Watson has been getting pretty roughed up since early July. 10 ER's over his last 13.1 innings across 17 games with an OPS of .956. That would not have helped matters one bit down the stretch for us(He's also benefited a good bit from playing half his games in SF. He has been significantly better at run prevention at home than on the road while putting up similar all around numbers.

The thing about Morrow is that he has always had injury issues, so yeah... he dead if he came back here.

Dodgers got about all you expect to out of Morrow a year ago.

That they didn't outbid the Cubs was a sound decision.

Interesting article out of Fangraphs this morning. This 2018 Dodgers team is the 4 worst team in CLUTCH situations in baseball.... since they started tracking the stat.... in 1979. Both sides of the ball have been awful, but the offense is seriously carrying the load on this one. Big changes need to be made this offseason.

It only feels like the bullpen is the sole issue, but far from it. This offseason, I feel it's time to say goodbye to all these platoon OFs. I don't mind platoons when you have platoon caliber guys, but they can do something about that..get'em outta here. How can you even build a proper " grind it out " culture if guys aren't playing and grinding everyday? Or the caliber of guys that you have are just auto outs against LHP? That goes for Joc, Puig..I'll throw Kemp in since he's just meh overall and a guy who needs days off. Time to get Verdugo out there everyday and see if his excellence against LHP in AAA is real..perhaps even get Belli out there in the OF everyday. Maybe Harper. Platooning at 1 OF spot and perhaps 2B is closer to where we should be. They can build depth another way.

One of the big challenges I see for this FO..with payroll flexibility coming, can they identify leader types that play at a high level? Is that Harper? Kasten would probably know there, Harper being his guy. Is that Machado? Is Yasmani the right leader at catcher ( doubtful)? Utley is out the door, so 1 leader down and maybe the only real leader and obviously limited because he can't play consistently anymore. Is Josh Donaldson a leader type? Donaldson coming off a down year, having familiarity with Zaidi..maybe he becomes a low risk/high reward sort of option on a 2 or 3 yr deal at the right price? Would they make room in the IF for Donaldson, the way they made room for Muncy? One thing about Donaldson..about an .840 OPS/close to a .300 average over 8 career postseason series, to your point about " clutch ". Probably have to find a potential closer as well, but yeah, there's more than the pen to worry about.
