Okay, seriously... do you guys get "Steinered" as much as me? I'm in my car often during gametime, so I tune in on XM radio.

    It goes something like this:

Dodgers are in the field. There's an audible crack of the bat.

    Steiner: ...
    Me, thinking: "Any day now."
    Steiner: ...
Me, yelling at my radio: "Say something, you dolt!"
Steiner, nonchalantly: "There's a fly ball to left field."
Me, thinking: "Good, it's a can of corn."
    Steiner: ...
    Me, thinking: "Wait, uh oh."
Steiner: "And it's over the fence for a home run."
Me, out loud: "Damnit! Steinered again!"

I mean, is there some kind of forced delay by the network or does he just take his sweet time to make sure he doesn't butcher it?

He probably studied at that same school that politicians and theologians and other grifters use.

I'm reading that Thom Brennaman has been fired for saying "fag" on a hot mic (homo?).

I guess the organization and network have no choice this day and age, but it's funny that the Reds called it "horrific"...really? You feel horror from that? Give me a break. That said, I hope they hire Steiner!

Back when I used to watch and listen to baseball, I would get Steinr'ed all the time.
In fact, my previous post that took a dig at Charlie was made before I saw yours!
The dude is as bad as it gets.

Today's game was broadcast on XM using the Mariners feed. Their play-by-play guy is actually pretty good and on Bellinger's HR, he knew it was gone and let us know right away. Later, I was watching highlights of the game which had Steiner's call on Bellinger. I just wish I could post them here side by side to really appreciate the difference. Not only is he late all the time, but his calls are just outright drab.

I know nobody is going to fill Vinny's shoes - ever - but come on! With this size media market they've got to be able to get somebody better.

All the time. He is the worst. I am very surprised the Guggenheim group kept him. One of McCourt’s worst moves is bringing Steiner on board.

he is an amateur out there. I always wondered if he had any background on play by play. Only remember him as a Sportscenter anchor.

He's never been great (understatement), but I wonder if being off site has anything to do with his timing and enthusiasm being off.

I know I'm in the minority with my opinion that the Dodgers announcers are fine. As stated previously, Vinny is retired, so that is what it is. I think Joe is fine, and most of the time, Orel gives a unique pitcher's perspective to a game, which I certainly appreciate. And he holds a Dodger place in history, and I won't forget it, ever.
I don't hear Steiner that often, so maybe I'm not qualified to comment on his timing and skills...but as far as the sound of his voice, it's a great bb announcers register, imo. That goes a long way for me.
Unique, like Mel Allen or Red Barber. That counts.
And as far as doing the job for an LA team in a huge media market, I wonder way more about the only fucking people we decide to come up with as choices to run this country, out of 350 M +,are Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
That sure is way more troubling and uninspiring to me.

    Pallet cleanser.
After vin you can't bring in his successor.
No matter how good he is he will get murdered for not being as good as vin or will feel underappreciated and leave.
Best to bring in a hack for a few years.
Make the fans long for anyone with some skill and excitement for the game.
    An actual voice.
We will appreciate it more then.
And that guy can stay for a generation.

    Where is Spiro Dedes now?
Lakers tried to make him the heir apparent too soon. But Billy Mac was not bad for long time local hack.
    Beats Fred Roggin.
Shit old Fred would be better than Steiner.
Vic the brick would be better than Steiner.
Matt Money Smith and his nasaly chicaga voice would be better than Steiner.
That hot chick that holds the mic would be better than Steiner.

OK. I'm convinced. They should poison Steiner for not being Vinny or Jerry Doggett, like a Putin opponent.
    Fuck him and kill him.

Steiner is doing this from his home haha, so there probably is a delay and some awkwardness in how it comes off

joe/Orel have been doing away games from Dodger stadium, and actually have been rather smooth in it not feeling like they’re away from stadium but Steiner’s situation is even more difficult.

Spero was an excellent successor to Chick. Too bad he didn't stick around.

I've honestly never disliked Steiner the way everyone else does. I enjoy his voice and both him and Monday together were always a solid duo. With that said, he has been HORRIFIC this season and it is not just the away games. He seems very distracted or uninterested and the calls have been just awful. In a game earlier this year the Dodgers scored a couple of runs and hit a HR in the inning, but you would never have known. He and Monday were having a convo and Steiner just kept talking monotone while you could hear the crack of the bat under his voice and the piped in sound. Then he was like, "and that's the inning, the Dodgers score X and extend the lead on Y home run". I was completely confused and was pissed about the call. I was driving up in the mountains so XM was all I had so I could not check the inning. When I did and saw there was a rally and everything I just shook my head. It wasn't just this game either, he has seemed out of it every time I throw on the radio broadcast. It is probably time for him to go.
