Robinson Cano flew to Seattle to meet with the Mariners in person today, and the team has informed him that they are willing to pay as much as $230-240MM on a 10-year contract, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com (Spanish link).

It was reported yesterday that the Mariners may have topped the Yankees' offer of roughly $170MM, but if true, the reported $230-240MM offer would shatter the Yankees' highest bid. The Mariners met with Cano's representatives on Tuesday, according to multiple reports, but this appears to be the first instance of Cano traveling to Seattle to meet with club officials.

Cano and agents Jay-Z of Roc Nation Sports and Brodie Van Wagenen of CAA are said to be seeking something in the neighborhood of $252MM. The Yankees reportedly will not offer Cano more than $200MM, and in the wake of that news, the offense-starved Mariners appear to have emerged as major players in the Cano sweepstakes.

Hope Cano enjoyed the level of talent around him last year, that's the best he will ever get in Seattle. Best of luck Robbie, I hope last place in AL west for the rest of your career is worth the money.

With the Yanks giving Ellsbury 153, I don't see why they are unwilling to give Cano 220.

The Ellsbury deal is just fucking historical. Worse contract than Crawford.

I think it's better than Crawford if he stays on the field

Cano is on his way to Seattle in a private jet to meet agent Jay Z and the Seattle Mariners. Even if he ends up going back to the Yanks, I love all this stuff. Best off season of all sports.

real talk...an extra 50M? if it were me in his shoes, yeh i'd sit in last place for the rest of my career for an extra 50M, but i'll be in 1st place at your local bank. Cano already has a championship ring.

I just don't see him going to Seattle without their GM telling him something else is going to be done. They have a lot of appealing pieces down on the farm they could move. Maybe they do a Walker centered deal for Price and a Miller/Franklin centered one for Ethier/Kemp. Cano won't sign somewhere knowing his protection in the line up is going to be Kyle Seager.

Sell yourself short I guess, titles and superstar status in NY will be worth far more than than 50 million dollars ten years from now. With jeter on the way out and cano's bright smile endorsement deals will be lucrative. Why do you think jeter has never had a problem with arod making more than him his entire career? Because at the end of the day jeters face is everywhere and he collects more money. Arods face is only attached to drama, even without the steroids. If Cano goes to Seattle he will be forgotten before he retires. How many casual fans do you think know much about one of the best pitchers in baseball already on that roster? I bet Felix walks around unrecognized more often than not....even in Seattle.

Jayz once said he made the Yankee hat more popular than a Yankee can. Prove it, do it with a mariners hat bro

The Mariners are plain ole stupid with no idea of how to build. They have a sub par system because the outgoing CEO keeps churning crap GM's like butter.

They have no current team President that gives a shit so perhaps they'll offer a ton of money to a baseball guy like Gillick or Larussa. Or even Hunsicker, but until they get baseball men running the franchise they're screwed.

The owner loves to have two high profile players. So he'll have Felix and Cano, while Iwakuma (like Ichiro) fuels the Japanese interest.

Hey Seattle. We have a GM that would be a perfect team president.

PLEASE CALL NED COLLETTI. He knows how to 'pick' talent like no one else in MLB!

dude, Cano's already 31 years old and a much young Jeter won hearts over in NY because he was the captain on 4 championship teams early in his career. there's zero guarantee that Cano wins as much as Jeter. winning is the name of the game with NYY...hell, their attendance suffered last year with Cano leading the charge. an extra 50M is sitting on the table, guaranteed...i'd grab it and roll the biggest legalized blunt of all time in my Seattle mansion if i were Cano.

fuck the Yankees and fuck NY...if they want " me "...match Seattle. otherwise, they could get outta my face with all that endorsement talk...he can get endorsements in Seattle...ever hear of a guy named Junior Griffey? plus Seattle is a 2 sport town...1 of which the players where helmets and are naturally more unknown than NBA/MLB stars. Cano would go to Seattle and be the biggest star in a pretty good sized market, so lets not act like Cano would be going to some shit place like Cleveland. if NY is so big and bad...match Seattle. simple.

Although the Mariners need A LOT of work, I don't think a player choosing a currently lame team is all that bad considering it might not take long for shitty teams to go through a time period of being good (see: Athletics, Pirates, Nationals)

The Yankees are obviously the Yankees but it's not like that team w/ Cano is a slam dunk contender.. They have a lot of question marks as well on both sides. NY has a much bigger appeal as a city to brand yourself but I think great players can "brand" themselves wherever they are in whatever sport as long as they are good.

Cano is gonna get backlash from Yankee fans if he "takes the money over the glory of being a Yankee" if he chases the extra 30-50 mil or wtv but I mean it'd do the same thing and the Yankees are the Yankees because they get players to choose them over other cities because of financial prosperity.

I think I went on a bit of a digression over this, just my thoughts on it overall.

I really hope cano goes to the Mariners cause it makes that team at least a little fun and creates some fucking chaos in NY which is great.

cleveland won 92 games last year, could sign cano and use kipnis as trade bait, probably winning the division next year. ever hear of Larry Doby? if cano who was named after jackie robinson knows his baseball, he might be inclined to follow in the footsteps of baseballs second black man and first in the AL, the dodgers as number 1 arent interested in his services.

Let's see Cano's homers drop like crazy in that ballpark.

I don't think 15 bombs would be out of the realm of possibility.

The Mariners have made an offer of 9 years at $225,000,000. That is an AAV of 25 mil a year through his age 40 season.
