For those wondering, the Mariners have roughly 37 mil in contract commitments for 2014. They have had payrolls in the past as high as 117 mil and have said that they would be willing to get back into 100's now that they have a new TV contract. Their new TV deal is for 17 years at $2 billion dollars, which broken down is in the neighborhood of $118 million a year. Basically after spouting off all this, I am inclined to believe that they would be far from done this off season.
Enrique Rojas/ESPN @Enrique_Rojas1 1m #Mariners and Cano agree. $240 million/10 years. Physical next monday in Seattle 7:54 AM - 6 Dec 13 · Details
This is bad. The Yankees now have more flexibility to pursue Tanaka, though I expect them to now go after Choo or Beltran etc.
They probably won't know for certain about that until late january or february. A-Roid is gonna do everything he can to delay delay delay.
It doesn't matter how much flexibility the Yanks have the Dodgers will always have more money to spend. Yankee money isn't even close to Dodger money. If we want Tanaka then we can offer the most money.
VRP, you got what you wanted. Now let's see which player the Mariners go hard after, David Price or Kemper.
Dare I say but could the Yankees under Hal be turning a new leaf of fiscal responsibility? What, the signed Ellsbury to 7 years 153m?
well Cano was thinkin like me...take that money. he already has his ring and Seattle is no little city/mini-market. he'll have all the opportunities he needs + Seattle has a new TV deal as well and they wanna increase payroll in similar fashion to the Dodgers. they won't go as high, but they're lookin to get up to 180M...they now sit at almost 60M i believe... ...so i guess SEA is still in on Matt Kemp. if i'm Kasten, i'm sitting until i hear the names Taijuan Walker and DJ Peterson
Seattle just moved the fences in last year. give it time. won't be like tee-ball field Yankee Stadium, but it'll play
40 year old Ibanez just hit 29HRs for the M's i can't understand why people are hating on Cano...many of you didn't want him to come to the Dodgers...well, he didn't. rejoice?
HiKu at 16 for 1 year. Now maybe Choo? Say one thing and do another. I'm just glad this shit is heating up, excited.
