BLF and I don't understand this statement brother. I took it as... Mattingly makes a shitty manager look like a shitty manager.
Oh and Fuck You with your new avatar biatch! Don't be thinking that beating up on some old drunk guys makes your game the shit. Just sayin...
Mattingley takes out Magill after he gets two guys out on 5 pitches lol ....STRIKE ONE Mattingley takes out Paco, who has proven he can get righties out, and Aioki simply made a great bunt.....STRIKE 2 Mattingley brings in Guerrier, the worst pitcher on the staff with a runner on....STRIKE 3 Mattingley's reason for bringing in Gurrier is Gomez was 0-3 in his career against him..what a huge sample size!....STRIKE 4 Mattingley brings Guerrier out again after giving up a HR the previous inning....STRIKE 5 Mattingley leaves Guerrier in after a lead off walk...STRIKE 6 Another bomb...lol Mattingley has a short hook on terrific pitchers who get both RH and LH out consistently (Howell and Paco, who haven't been overworked either), but keeps letting Guerrier, a proven POS on this team continue to pitch. The only guy who pitches poorly is the only one with the long leash....and we pay for it. Mattingley started Cruz....STRIKE 8
not sure if anyone remembers but guerrier hung the pitch just prior to the 1st hr as well... gomez just happened to miss(hit) it
I despise Mattinglys in game managing with our offense (bunting, weird pinch hitting at times, weird lineups) but for pitching to be honest, I don't really question a lot simply cause (as far as I remember) he said coming in as a manager he'd get a lot of help from Honeycutt who is a God. And last year, all in all our pitching was good in the end. A lot of things hear and there we can complain about but IMO, the pitching moves are solid. The offense stuff gets me mad (why the fuck was Hairston bunting last night?), but I still like Mattingly until some fucked up shit happens in the clubhouse
It's great that I can now put that phrase with the sound of your voice saying it. Glad I finally met you....ironically, those were the absolute 1st words out of your mouth to me....classic.
I don't blame Mattingly for putting in Guerrier or Wall. I blame Guerrier and Wall for being fucking awful. At the end of the day, the players have to execute. Shouldn't have to take a miracle for people making millions of dollars (thousands for Wall) to pitch a scoreless inning and not fuck us in the ass once in awhile.
It is amazing how we blame the manager for using the players/oitchers he has to work with so often. I liked what Lyons was saying about using the closer(League). Basically if you don't use him and we lose, shame on the manager. If we do use him and lose, shame on League. Obviously there is exceptions to the rule(see Torre's use of Broxton vs. the Yankees after 4 out of 5 appearances in a row)...but it makes good sense.
I mean, it's not always as simple as saying "the players need to execute, the manager is fine", but that need to be taken into account as well. The only thing that has bugged me about Mattingly so far this year, is that he hasn't put any runners in motion or tried to make anything happen. I think, especially when this team was flat, plays like that were desperately needed. But things like bunting, lineups, pitching changes (for the most part), players need to execute.
The Dodgers have not yet extended the contract of manager Don Mattingly, who has only a team option in place next season, and Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles wonders why. But team president Stan Kasten says it's a non-issue. "The team has its option some time next fall. What’s wrong with just leaving it at that?" says Kasten. "The answer is nothing and it’s stupid to suggest otherwise. If he had a 10-year contract, but we weren’t happy with his performance, he wouldn’t be here next year, because they’re unrelated." The Dodgers are off to a 13-14 start this year. it's a non-issue because he might not make it to the offseason:hanged: injuries or not, this team is underacheiving and not playing inspired baseball
I still think it's a bit early, but if the team is still underachieving late in to May, he might have to go. I don't think managers really have a huge impact on a game, but Mattingly definitely makes his fair share of bad moves too often. I think he needs to go more so to spark the team. If the players see their manager get fired because of their poor performance, maybe they'll turn it around a bit.
Kasten tells it as it is; it's a team option, why waste it when you don't have to? In saying that, extend CK already.
Thanks, now don't get all teared up on us so true, so many times... and Diablo at least you spelled it more like I tend to say it. just shows that the same words can be a welcome as much as a curse... or in Irish's case...both!!
