2:08pm: Colorado will receive Aaron Harang in the deal, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (on Twitter). The veteran was one of the club's surplus starters and was less-than-thrilled about having to come out of the bullpen to start the season. The right-hander posted a 3.61 ERA for the Dodgers last season with 6.6 K/9 and 4.3 BB/9 across 179 2/3 innings of work. While he has shown that he can be an effective starter, Harang shouldn't take off his coat just yet as the Rockies don't plan on keeping him, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link). Colorado will designate Harang for assignment and even if they can't find a taker, they'll still save some cash on the deal, Renck tweets. Capuano signed a two-year, $12MM deal that includes a mutual option for 2014 prior to the 2012 season. That figure includes the $2MM buyout he'll receive if his mutual option for 2014 is not exercised. Sources say the Rockies already are hearing from teams with interest in Harang, Rosenthal tweets. The Red Sox are one possibility as they look for a John Lackey replacement. 1:40pm: The Rockies have agreed to trade catcher Ramon Hernandez to the Dodgers in exchange for salary relief, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post (on Twitter). The Rockies designated Hernandez for assignment just prior to Opening Day. Hernandez posted a .217/.247/.353 batting line in 184 at bats for Colorado in 2012. The Rockies had a surplus of catchers and Hernandez was the odd man out after Yorvit Torrealba beat him out for a spot on the Opening Day roster. The Rockies inked the backstop to a two-year, $6.4MM deal after the 2011 season. It doesn't sound as though the deal will bring the Rockies anything of substance outside of some financial help. For the Dodgers, Hernandez can be expected to be slotted behind A.J. Ellis as the No. 2 catcher, supplanting Tim Federowicz.
I have ZERO idea what in the hell this is about. This makes NO sense. NONE. Unless there is a follow up move coming, Ned is simply showing how moronic he can be when he feels he needs to show his presence. Fedex worked. We had an extra starting pitcher who could have gotten us something more than a backup catcher who was already released. This makes NO sense. I cannot say that enough.
Ned is just giving away Harang as an act of mlb charity? He's out there helping out the Rockies financial situation? WTF?
Do you suppose this is some kind of three way deal in the works? COL trades Harang and Dodgers maybe pick up a prospect? IDK... Ramon Hernandez had a couple of good years with the bat in 2010 and 2011 with CIN. But he sucked last year in COL and he's 36. The Rockies already buried him this year. Not sure what they are thinking - he will hit again? And be a good backup? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hernara02.shtml
Dodgers have a quality pitching staff and Ellis calls a quality game. Not sure Fed Ex does and if Hernandez does it is a great trade. Interesting not to Kershaws opening day shutout was that he only shook Ellis off once. That is impressive and shows trust. We don't know the feedback pitchers were giving about the game Fed Ex tried to call and how well he handled the job behind the plate. Was he up to the level of quality of their stuff and or balls in the dirt.
Maybe Fedex is a pig and he doesn't use his Right Guard and leaves his jocks laying around. He just doesn't fit into the clean new locker room.
Ned going full retard again. We better flip this fucking catcher for something good. This makes no sense. I thought we were over this, Ned!
why not send them some extra planes and the key to the city. buy the owner a ferrari and send him on vacation to europe.
Don't really care about this move. I wish we could have gotten a fringe prospect or something but again, whatevs.
