There is a reason why the books of the MLB teams are so secret and Frank wanted them opened in court. Folks aren't spentding this kind of money because they want to make fans happy they have a common bottom line and our new owners probably will also. The pirates are doing it with revenue sharing funds so teams like the Dodgers are raising money for the owners of the Pirates bottom line.

they took money out of the dream foundation and avoided prosecution only because they agreed to pay it back immediately
joe citizen would not be afforded this luxury
other owners may have done it, but there also not filing for bankruptcy either

Which is what I am really finding hilarious I mean possibly funny as hell. Think about what we could be on the verge of my friend. A business files for bankruptcy protection and the two original owners walk away with possibly 400-700 million in profit after the sale. that will depend on the final sale price but we know that one of them will get 131 million for sure.

It really is beyond shameful and they will rest in Hell one day. I mean every freaking step of the the way what looks like a setback for Frank in hindsight turns out well for him. From the financing to even losing the media rights case to Fox. He now has every expert and their uncle valuing the media contract. It is A one conversation and now everyone expects it to go for 3-4 billion probably closer to 4 billion. That just gets more bidders in at higher bids and even probably has Fox and Warner perhaps both getting in to fight it out. He even has the parking lot and the land around the stadium being discussed and valued upward and now add Caruso to the mix and the stories about him wanting to spend a billion or more just so he knows he owns the land also! WTF oh yeah I forgot he has Blackstone handling the sale who are masters at blowing things up into separate pieces and bringing them back again at a higher combined price. Yeah he knows bankruptcy and asset fluffing and hires those who are masters at it. Other than Cuban and some of the baseball related people I am not sure which of the names are in it to bring a smile to the face of Dodger fans. Yes they want us to smile to the extent if is profitable to them. I think in hindsight we will find that having Kemp and Kershaw under contract added a few hundred million to the final sale price. Yes Dorothy, Santa may come late and you still might get a Fielder Doll.

but that doesn't fit the stereotype mouse. all businessmen are lowlifes so its just to be expected. ask tuborg or rube.

I don't at all thing most businessmen are low life. I think most successful business men in our society are also capitalist and understand the nature of their own self interest. There are those who operate outside the boundaries of the law and ethics and I have neither respect or support for. However I never looked at Frank through rose colored glasses and understood his bottom line his financial wealth. I remember a few years ago in PSD commenting about McCourt and his debt and being told by a number of posters he had paid his debt back and owned the Dodgers outright. He had paid the Fox loans back but borrowed to do that. Yes the potential bidders for the team have some familiar sports faces etc but the money behind them is coming from successful business men who have held their own personal wealth as a goal of their business careers. Are we any different? We invest and save for our own benefit don't we? Do we accumulate wealth so we have more to give to charity in our old age? Yes some do but do we?

there are always degrees of what someone is willing to do to gain prosperity. making a profit is one thing. stealing every penny you can and exploiting all is usually something only the very rich can get away with. they make the laws after all.
working hard, saving money, denying yourself, investing in your business while supplying a service to society is how most businessmen do it. and they are entitled to enjoy some of the rewards of living by those tenets.
while it has become all too common for the entitled few to rape and pillage it is far from what most business people aspire to.
if frank had built the value of the team and sold it for profit that is perfectly acceptable.
to build the value and pilfer everything he could should be criminal. but again the laws support his filthy scumbag tendencies. so fuck us.

Facts are stubborn things, aren't they?
Is it true that 1.2 billion now was worth $ 4500.00 in 2004?
Barney Frank said so, I think...a pitcher or a catcher?

BZ, you got my curiosity going. 450 million in 2004 would be worth 539 million in 2011. The calculator only works through 2011 as the actual inflation rate for 2012 is not known.

We need deep pockets, the willingness to win at any cost, and the ability to find a baseball minded individual who does not get schooled in trades, roster moves, and the FA market.

Anti Billy Beane also IMO. Only bringing this up because the possibility has been discussed this offseason. I'm not a fan of how this man trades away multiple above average to star players for packages of prospects every offseason. I think Ned tries to be like Beane but just fails miserably at it. We need a GM like the Phillies. Hate to say it, but that dude gets shit done.

Beane does his job to an extreme, Cashman does his job to an extreme.

    Ned never had a plan.
