Sure, I have read a couple of articles that since Hanley started out in the Red Sox organization they have a good read and feel he has considerable left field potential if he works at it. Red Sox could have some very valuable chips to use at the trade deadline. Playing the big green monster and hitting to the big green monster could help Hanley burn on the bases if healthy.

Not saying that they shouldn't sign Olivera because of that..just saying that an the reality of sign Olivera..Rollins knows he's gone. Maybe he does already, but that wasn't the message at his presser. Uribe on the other hand has to know this is it for him. Will it have an effect on the team this year? Don't know, but Rollins and Uribe are probably looked at as leaders..worst case scenario their words/leadership ring hollow to guys who are locked in for the future.

During my July 2 research, Dodgers were rumored to have a multi-million dollar deal, which seemed weird w/Moncada rumors. Now it doesn't.

I mentioned earlier that it seemed like LA was weighing options to spend 7/2 money now/next period & Moncada became only reason to do it now

Rollins is 36 years old. I mean..of course he's gone sooner than later.

Surely. But does he have multiple years left in the tank? He was one of the best defensive SS in the game last year and managed to hit 17HRs..11 of which came on the road and away from the Phil's small yard. Stole 28 bases too which says as much as anything that he's aging quite well. And of course we don't have bunch of options as far as the leadoff spot goes. He's really it if you're factoring in comfort. All in all, he'd have to fall off a pretty steep cliff. Pretty sure he was a 4 win player last year..what can he do in a better lineup and behind better pitching?

Papi isn't showing that he's slowing down but yeah I guess Panda playing 1st is a possibility. Wouldn't that weaken their defense if that would eventually happen and What if Hanley is so bad in left which is a distinct possibility. I guess I'm still in shock and that I don't see this as a good move for the kid. I think he's a starter with the Yankees as early as next year. IMHO I think the agent just went for the 10% instead of advising the kid better. Having said that IF they trade for Hamels then this would make more sense to me.

Disagree for one reason: Yankees aren't going to win jack for quite some time. Meanwhile, Boston is loading up. The kid is gonna get paid whether he plays next year or not. So the question is do you want to come up sooner with a team that's going nowhere, or come up later with a team that is going to contend into the next decade? Also, if the kid lives up to half the hype then Boston will be more than happy to deal someone else to make room for him. He's only a trade away from starting in Boston.

Disappointed that we didn't get him.
If we are going to have a product that I can't watch on tv, at least they can reinvest that money so that the Yankees are Dodgers west.

Disappointed. Was a huge chance to stock our system. I understand the risks but this goes against the grain of the direction the organization was supposed to be heading in terms of youth and development. Money for long-term talent. Seemed like a nice chance.

I am amazed at the pass this guy has received. He went from an average player who could barely crack the lineup full-time and never hit more than 20 home runs while playing in the homer dome to all world once he paired with Manny in Boston

Not one Red Sox player is in it.

I don't see it that way. The way I see it, they passed on a chance to sign one super talent for megabucks to allow them a chance at several possible super talents down the road, and in the process avoiding a roadblock to signing the next pool of talent. Yes signing the most sought after talent right now would have been nice, but was it worth not being able to sign the most sought after talents in the near future?

In addition they have a chunk of change coming off the books in 16 and 17, so they can spend more and either be under the luxury tax or not hit as hard. This is a big ouch year with the tax. The luxury tax is progressive and gets worse each year. I believe this will be year 3. Crawford and Dre are a big ouch

McDaniel says they already have a deal in place with a prospect from the next signing period, says he will release the name in one of his articles next week.
