done... set... now we can finally move on...

it was obvious that the Yankees need him more... and that contract is CRAZY MONEY for a guy that has proved nothing... Dice-K 2.0 here we go...

Well-it's all a moot point now. Tanaka will be pitching from the bump in the Bronx, and that's that. All the Tanaka words and conjecture about him wearing Dodger Blue are dust in the wind.
    ...and the beat goes on....

I don't know about that... maybe sour grapes, but if he's DiceK for the Yanks, I guess he would have been DiceK for the Dodgers.
Not that I give a shit (I've always labored underneath the NYY yoke being a Dodger fan in NJ), but they do look damn good now.

Yeah, Price has to be be asking "damn how much am I worth if this untried guy gets 155M", like they said.
It's true, and it's all out of balance.
I do hope we sign Price though. I think Arroyo has very little left for us. If we do go at him, I hope for only a short term...

Price is moreso happy because his speculated landing spot has been the Dodgers for a while now and now that they didn't give his spot to Tanaka it means he could still land with us. he also knows the Dodgers will pay up.

this year is Price's age 28 season and he'll be a free agent in his age 30 season...at the very least he'll get what Greinke got, maybe a little more for being a lefty. i could see 150M going to him.

as far as what the Dodgers would have to give up to get him in advance...well, that's another story. when you consider that most people have Seager pegged for 3B and that Hanley is eventually gonna have to move there, it screams that Seager will be in play if they decide to deal for Price. pretty sure they'd try to include Ethier and cash on his contract as well. guys like Zach Lee and Stripling may go in that potential deal too. being that we have starting pitching locked up long term and we'd be getting another starter like Price, giving us 4 horses, the only untouchables should be our extra-young phenom Urias and our bullpen/power arms like Withrow and Onelki.

@BillShaikin: I'm told Tanaka would have left "a decent amount" of money on the table if he wanted to pitch for #Dodgers, who were outbid by Cubs, Yanks.

So we didn't go "all out" to sign him.

Love reading all these Yankees fans gloat on the Espn comments, meanwhile everyone else is in full on hate mode.

I look at it like this, I really wanted him but if that's how much we would've had to pay I'm glad we didn't. He's just unproven, has a ton of innings on that arm, and could be Darvish or Dice K. You just never know. I think 7 years is ridiculous and 155 million for a guy who has never pitched in the MLB? That's sheer lunacy!

His stats in japan were great but what level of baseball is that when washed up and never beens can go over there and rake?

like i've maintained all along, he was ours if we really wanted him
clearly we didn't, at least not for $155MM
$22MM+ a year is a shit ton for (essentially) an unproven commodity
weird, when i saw the news i wasn't all that disappointed
and i wish him no ill will whatsoever with the yanks (at least not until october/november)
'course i might have felt differently had he gone to the d-bags or scrubs

You should read these Yankees fans Irish. Most everyone is saying essentially what we are, they overpaid for an unproven commodity. They've countered with 27 World Series championships, oh yeah your just jealous cause we have the best rotation in the AL East now (I guess none of them have heard of Tampa) but the greatest is some critics are saying Irabu part 2, t'which Yankees fans are now countering with mythological "reports" from ex mlb'ers and scouts saying he's better than Darvish.

We don't know what a decent amount of money is, 5 mill or 20 mill. But to me, 155 m for an unproven player is utterly insane

    LOL

If you include the posting fee, this is the 3rd biggest pitcher contract in MLB history - he costs the same as Felix Hernandez.

    I couldn't agree more...

But if we signed him for 7/155M would we feel the same way?? All of us were all in on this guy becoming a Dodger.:stirpot:

    i think we'd be excited
even be making arguments why we had to pay so much/that we had the money etc...
    but tbh...
i give ned and stan a lot of credit for not overpaying here
even if tanaka becomes a star (and i do believe he'll be very good) it was too much to pay

How about this one? That's only 6M less than they paid for Sabathia.

Is this the first time the New Dodgers and Yankees wanted the same high-profile guy? Maybe this is just a sign of things to come.
