Well we're the Los Angeles Dodgers. We need to have a GM like New York, Boston, Philly, etc.

    I 100% Agree.

I was just saying Ned is a retard because he never had a plan. At least Beane and Cashman, used in my point as polar opposites, have a clear plan. One-Be a homo and trade players. The other, do work. Ned is neither. He is just a retard who signs Juan Pierre to a 5 year deal when two of the best CFers would be on the market the very next off-season (Didn't know Jones would suck at that point). He doesn't think ahead, he doesn't think at all really.

Holy Toledo, in case you haven't read the Disney article you need to read this freaking highlight.
    http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers-disney-20120108,0,6490325.story

With Fox Sports and the Dodgers still in litigation, a mediator recently broached the idea of Frank McCourt selling the team to Fox so that McCourt could get a guaranteed sale price and Fox could secure the Dodgers' long-term television rights, according to a person familiar with the talks.

Under that plan, Fox then would have facilitated a sale to another party, but the trial balloon was shot down over the potential price McCourt might accept to forgo an auction. According to the person familiar with the talks, Fox proposed a price in the range of $1.2 billion, McCourt proposed a price in the range of $2 billion, and neither side expressed much interest in meeting halfway.

Dodgers spokesman Robert Siegfried and Fox spokesman Chris Bellitti each declined to comment on the mediation. Bellitti, however, wanted to make one point clear on behalf of Fox.

"The company has no interest in ownership of the Dodgers," he said.

We have discussed that settlement of the media rights could result in a direct sale to Fox now but holy cow even Fox is offering 1.2 billion which seems to put that in place as a floor. How high is the freaking ceiling? Talk about franchise appreciation!

Goes to show that perception isn't always reality. All these major names in the financial world coming out sure doesn't support the theory that Frank won't have a chance to get his price. Wonder if there is any way these groups splinter off and join other groups to form a super group or are there egos too big to do so.

    P.S. But not 2 billion.:)

I think what you suggest is a very distinct possibilty. Again Blackstone has done what they are best at blowing everything up into individual pieces. They have done that and all the hype about the media contract even has Fox bidding 1.2 billion to be sure they get it. What would Time Warner pay or the Disney kids etc etc. Now the land discussion and Caruso wanting to buy the team just for that. Torre wants the team etc. Could you imagine a merger of Caruso, Time Warner and Torre? In this climate that could be the 1.5 billion one of the insiders mentioned recently. Frank knows how to hire the best at doing and getting what he wants. Blackstone is skilled at bringing the parts together for a complete package so they could be the ones to faciliate merging the parts to get the best price. Fox could join with Caruso or anyone. Many possibilities and there is overlap between folks so ego might not be a problem since the bottom line is their parochial interest and need. Even now Blackstone may be assisting groups to form and partner. My only is that Fox wants control of the media rights and has even now tried to get control of the sale process. Not sure how dirty they will go to control who the ultimate owner is and their obligation to Fox.

    he's not getting $2 billion
but with still a couple months left
of course he's going to ask for the sky now
    who wouldn't
i can't wait to see him squirming as the deadline approaches
and he has to settle for a mere (sarcasm) $1 billion or so
don't be surprised if all the bidders collude to drive the price down

Sources: Groups get tour of Dodgers
    By Ramona Shelburne | ESPNLosAngeles.com

The New York investment group handling the sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers has begun scheduling tours of Dodger Stadium with prospective ownership groups, multiple sources close to the process, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

"It's just to allow investors in the groups to walk the Stadium, get a feel for it, and ask questions," one source said.

However, that opportunity is only being offered to groups that the Blackstone Group considers serious at this point.

One group that may become more serious includes Tony Ressler, co-founder of a Los Angeles investment firm controlling over $40 billion in assets, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing anonymous sources. The ownership group that bought the Milwaukee Brewers in 2005 had Ressler as one of their minority investors back then; it is unclear if he still remains an investor.

Also getting involved is longtime chief of Shamrock Holdings Stanley Gold, according to sources cited by the newspaper. Gold and his partner, Roy Disney, were involved in the public push to remove Michael Eisner as CEO of the Walt Disney Co.

The Blackstone Group has distributed preliminary "bid books" over the past few weeks to about a dozen groups and will likely distribute more in advance of the Jan. 23 deadline to submit initial bids for the team, two sources close to the process said.

Those books reveal only preliminary information about the team's financial state and how it will be sold. More detailed financial information will be released to prospective buyers after the initial bids are submitted.

The initial bids are non-binding, two sources said, although groups will need to demonstrate that they can fund their bid.

"This first round is more to find out who really has money and who is just talk," one source said.

The later stages of the process were outlined in a settlement between Frank McCourt and Major League Baseball last month. After the initial bids come in, Blackstone will submit a list of the groups it is most interested in to MLB, which will then do its own formal vetting process and inform Blackstone which groups would likely be approved by three-fourths of baseball's 30 owners. The final stages of the process will be handled by Blackstone and McCourt, who have the final say. McCourt has agreed to sell the team by April 30.

If I were Fox, I would offer the Dodgers for 1.6. I would then sell the team to someone who will put players on the field and asses in seats to make the product the best possible. I would sell it off for 900 million (and it is probably worth 1.2 in auction). The only stipulation is that another media agreement is reached for another 10 years. Fox would pay the owner ____ amount of dollars per year and promises to pay for for the largest player's salary every year. Think about it.

Not out of the question. Fox could let someone buy who is not as rich and would use Fox financing and be in their hip pocket just like Frank was. Yup could happen. Fox would pay less in media rights and someone would take less if that was their only way of buying the team. I trust Fox as far as I can throw them. They have a working relationship with Cuban from the Mavericks and their recent increase in payments from Fox.

if i had enough money (like cohen, for example)
    i'd buy the whole lot
    media, parking, everything
perhaps paying a bit extra now
looking at the long term profits
fuck having to deal with everyone else

Within his ESPN.com Insider blog, Buster Olney says the competition is good news for Dodgers fans, since no one who commits that type of money to purchase the franchise will "let it rot with a modest payroll." Cole Hamels should also be excited, Olney adds, implying the Dodgers could be in position to make the southpaw a significant offer if he becomes a free agent next winter.

Interesting take on next year if we get an owner with deep pockets. Hamels is nice but I like Cain better. He has been screwed for offense in SF and I am not sure we could offer much more. Imagine if we acquired both with Kershaw and Bills. You are looking at Kershaw/Cain/Hamels/Bills/Lilly DAMN.

I mentioned this a while back. I think Cole is a real possibility for us next year, seeing as how he's from Southern Cali. I'm all for bringing Cole to LA.

At this point in time with all that has been said and done, anything other than a deep pocket buyer spending big on payroll will be met by revolt of Dodger fans. Even Bud knows it has to be big and bigger and MLB needs it.

IDK why you still consider Bills to be a part of the Rotation. It's about time to drop him into long-relief/mop-up, the role formerly held by Jeff Weaver. Go with the kids, De La Rosa and Eovaldi in the Rotation, provided DLR has fully recovered from surgical repairs.
