Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that in addition to Cruz, Jhonny Peralta and Everth Cabrera will accept suspensions. Rosenthal also adds new names to the mix, noting that Phillies left-hander Antonio Bastardo and Mets utility man Jordany Valdespin have accepted 50-game suspensions as well. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports tweets that Astros lefty Sergio Escalona has been suspended as well. Several of the players linked to the Biogenesis scandal have also been clients of the ACES agency, and the newest players to be implicated - Valdespin, Bastardo, and Escalona - add to the total. __
Jeff Passan | Yahoo! Expert Antonio Bastardo, Jordany Valdespin and Sergio Escalona among 13 suspended MLB players 51 minutes ago Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Antonio Bastardo, New York Mets utilityman Jordany Valdespin and Houston Astros minor leaguer Sergio Escalona will be suspended by Major League Baseball on Monday for their involvement with the Biogenesis wellness clinic, sources told Yahoo! Sports. Phillies pitcher Antonio Bastardo will be suspended as part of the Biogenesis probe. (USA Today Sports)The three are among the heretofore-unreleased names of players who have agreed to suspensions with the league after documents and testimony from Biogenesis owner Anthony Bosch linked them to performance-enhancing drug use. Each will receive a penalty of 50 games. Players who the league believe lied during interviews pertaining to Biogenesis could receive additional discipline. The league will announce the suspensions for them, along with around 10 other players, including a ban through 2014 for New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, on Monday afternoon. Bastardo, 27, is one of the top left-handed relief pitchers in the National League and has a 2.32 ERA through 42 2/3 innings this season. He has been the lone consistent pitcher in the worst bullpen in the National League. The Phillies' bullpen ERA entering Sunday's game was 4.35. Valdespin, 25, was recently demoted to the Mets' Triple-A affiliate, Las Vegas, where he is serving a three-game suspension for inciting a benches-clearing brawl after showboating a home run. Valdespin cursed out Mets manager Terry Collins after the team refused to put him on the disabled list July 15 instead of sending him to the minor leagues. He is hitting .463/.540/.778 at Triple-A after failing to crack a .200 batting average with the Mets this year. Escalona, 29, spent parts of two seasons in the major leagues and is at Double-A Corpus Christi. He underwent Tommy John surgery during spring training in 2012 and returned this year. In 12 appearances at Double-A, he has a 6.60 ERA and has allowed 31 baserunners in 15 innings. Other players receiving 50-game suspensions for their involvement with Biogenesis are Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, Detroit Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, San Diego Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera, Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli, minor leaguers Jesus Montero, Cesar Puello and Fernando Martinez, and free agents Jordan Norberto and Fautino de los Santos. Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun already accepted a 65-game suspension. __
Imagine the panic at the ACES agency. Probably a lot of people stuffing their shredders at the office today.
a-rod suspended until 2015 Major League Baseball and 12 players have agreed to 50-game suspensions for their roles in the Biogenesis case, multiple media outlets reported Monday, with the harshest penalty, against Alex Rodriguez, set to be handed down in the afternoon.Rodriguez will be suspended through the end of the 2014 season in an announcement to come at 3 p.m. ET, sources told ESPN's T.J. Quinn. Rodriguez is expected to appeal and will be allowed to play until his appeal is heard. The players' union made a late appeal to MLB for a deal for Rodriguez but was told there would be no more negotiations. He will be punished under the Joint Drug Agreement and other areas of the league's collective-bargaining agreement but will be allowed to play while he appeals.__
This is BULLSHIT. That worthless fuck has been a cheater his whole career. Fuck due process, void his contact, cut him, ban him for life...
and let the Yanks off the hook, fuck that. This has me thinking that maybe the team of a player who gets caught with PED's should get penalized as well.
Me too, but actually they usually do. The Dodgers suffered when Manny was caught. They still had to pay him when he returned shriveled up and weak. The Dodgers are having to pay Ethier too. LOL S.F. just dodged their bullet with Melky. They came out ahead unfortunately.
Curious timing though right? A-Rod has been fit for a couple of weeks now, and the Yankees just kept delaying that little bit longer. Leads me to believe old Bud or his mate Torre was keeping the Yankees in the loop. Not sure any other team would have got the same courtesy.
Half the league is on roids. I hope all players, including any Dodger, who has taken/is taking them is exposed and dealt with properly. The league needs to be cleaned up. Both the players and league are at fault.
A-Roid suspended for 211 game!!! WTF have you ever heard of a 211 game suspension? It's almost like these BS jail sentences of 1000 years? WTF?? Just kick him out already... except that I'd prefer the Yankees also lose that coin too but hey let's not get greedy... that is the domain of A-roid and Selig. Good... Fuck him. H'es made over $315,000,000.00 playing baseball while cheating at every turn. Do I hate him more than lying cheater Bonds? Almost... but the tie breaker would be cheating to benefit the damn Yankees is less offensive than cheating to benefit the fucking vaGiants? Bonds still is the most reviled... but A-Roid is closing fast...
He's basically suspended for the rest of this season and all of next, which comes out to 211 games. Not all that weird.
I agree and I'm pretty sure everybody knew the yankees were waiting for this to come down and praying either for the lifetime ban or he would be suspended against the cba so he wouldn't be able to play until the appeal
so this is something we can rectify guys anyone in on this venture? our fallen stars need to be healed
